TexAgs Recruiting analyst Ryan Brauninger joined this morning for another edition of Recruiting Country, highlighting the latest news and notes from the recruiting trail surrounding Texas A&M.

Key notes from Recruiting Country

  • The Spring Game weekend did a ton for creating momentum for the class of 2023. The A&M staff took this weekend as an opportunity to hit the ground running and generate a ton of momentum, and put themselves in a great position for a lot of their top prospects.

  • The coaches have the set areas that they will recruit primarily. Then there are specific instances where guys tag along and help. You saw that yesterday with Elijah Robinson at Willis to see Derek Lagway‍. This time of year is great for the A&M coaches to get on the road and create bonds with high school coaches across the state and country. It’s also an excellent opportunity to get an up-close look at guys that are on their board but do not yet have an offer. It helps move that evaluation further along when they see them in person.

  • The best 2023 quarterback in Texas, according to people I talk to, seems to be leaning toward Austin Novosad‍. The Aggies will be out to Dripping Springs to see him soon. He has been a huge stock-up guy all spring on the circuit. It would not shock me to see him among the leaders at the Elite 11 this summer. Texas A&M has not offered yet.

  • Pierce Clarkson‍ did receive an offer at the quarterback in 2023 yesterday. He is currently committed to Louisville, and his dad is one of the most well-respected 7-on-7 coaches in the country. He is a great prospect, with tons of great relationships with other prospects, most notably Johntay Cook‍. I would not be surprised to see the Maroon & White make another offer or two in the class of 2023 at quarterback.

  • The easiest position to project is probably the defensive line. You see similar body types and skillsets do well wherever they go. Drive and will are more of a factor on the defensive line, in my opinion, than any other position. Motor matters a lot. The hardest position to project... quarterback is difficult.

  • I don't think the spring game atmosphere that the fans create is as big of a deal as the interactions with the players on the team and the staff are. If no one shows up, that can hurt you. But I don't think a sellout means as much as some people make it out to be.
