Texas A&M Football Recruiting
Recruiting Country: The latest recruiting news surrounding the Maroon & White
TexAgs Recruiting analyst Ryan Brauninger joined this morning for another edition of Recruiting Country, highlighting the latest news and notes from the recruiting trail from around the country surrounding Texas A&M.
Key notes from Recruiting Country
- The deccommitment doesn’t change what I think about Eli Holstein as a person and prospect. I still think he’s the best QB recruit in Louisiana in 2023, no matter what the people in Austin say. This means that Texas A&M is back in the market for a quarterback in the class. They will look far and wide for a quarterback.
- I think a huge stock-up guy at the quarterback position right now in the state of Texas would be Austin Novosad out of Dripping Springs. Currently committed to Baylor. I think Texas A&M will have to start fighting the negative message from other schools on the recruiting trail about the numbers and talent, in the quarterback room at Texas A&M.
- It looks like the Spring Game is going to be their big recruiting event of the spring. I think there will be a lot of high-profile visitors on campus from around the country. Still no recruiting coordinator and no update on that timeline. That, however, will not impact the number of kids and the quality of talent visiting campus.
- I think it’s a cool factoid in recruiting to be able to say that all 32 NFL teams were represented on campus at your Pro Day. The more considerable landmark will be draft day and where the Aggies are taken.
- It’s harder for college coaches to evaluate high school kids than for NFL scouts to evaluate college players. There are just so many more data points coming out of college than coming out of high school. It’ll be really interesting to see how the COVID recruiting classes around the country perform across the country. That will be the high school class that college coaches had the fewest amount of data points on.
- Marquise Collins (pictured above) will be on campus for practice today. He just recently took a trip to Utah last week. That’s an interesting offer, in my opinion. Utah is a school that has come into Texas very frequently and taken prospects and developed them into great kids. The Aggies will also have Cedric Baxter Jr. out of Florida coming to campus this weekend.
- It’s very interesting when you look at the state of Texas in 2023. There are some big holes at certain positions that will force the Aggies to go out of state at a higher rate in this class, potentially. The Ags are in a great position with TJ Shanahan this class, who is at Austin Westlake now, but came from the Orlando area.
- Derion Gullette, out of Marlin, one of the Maroon & White’s top LB prospects, just announced that he will be in town for the Spring Game on April 9. A great small school prospect that I can prmoise you Tyler Santucci will not back off on.
