Here’s a statistical look, by the numbers, at the Aggies’ 35-14 win at Missouri Saturday in Columbia...

1 - Sack allowed in the game by A&M on offense. The Aggies gave up 12 sacks through the first 5 games this season but Zach Calzada has been sacked just 1 time in the last 2 games.

2 - Turnovers forced on defense in the win ... both first quarter interceptions by Jaylon Jones and Antonio Johnson. The Aggies had just 1 takeaway in their first 3 games vs. Power 5 opponents but produced 2 takeaways against Alabama and 2 more vs. Mizzou.

#2 - National ranking for Isaiah Spiller in runs over 40 yards. The junior’s 48-yard touchdown run in the first quarter gave him 4 runs over 40 yards in 2021. The only player in college football with more runs of 40-plus yards is Missouri’s Tyler Badie (5). A&M’s 6 runs of 40-plus yards sits at #3 in the country. Spiller’s 659 rushing yards ranks #20 in FBS and #3 in the SEC through 7 weeks. He’s on pace to rush for 1,130 yards in the regular season.

4 - Red zone TDs for the Aggies in the game ... in 4 trips inside the 20. A&M entered the Missouri game ranked #111 nationally in red zone touchdown percentage (47.37%) but the 4-of-4 showing on Saturday moves that percentage up to 56.5% (#85 nationally)

5 - Plays allowed over 20 yards against Missouri. That included explosive runs of 22 yards (Michael Cox) and a 32-yard TD run (Tyler Badie). Connor Bazelak connected on explosive passes of 24 yards (Tauskie Dove), 26 yards (Dove) and 34 yards (Badie). The A&M defense entered the Arkansas game as is the only team in FBS that had not allowed a single pass play of 20+ yards but the Aggies have allowed 19 passes of 20-plus yards in their 4 SEC games. Interestingly, only 5 of the 16 long passes have gone over 30 yards (A&M is #10 nationally in passes of 30-plus yards allowed).

5 - Consecutive games with at least 1 tackle-for-loss for A&M defensive end Micheal Clemons. After adding another TFL in the win at Missouri, Clemons now has 6.5 TFL ... that’s good for #63 nationally in TFL per game.

6 - Offensive plays over 20 yards against the Tigers. That included 3 runs of 20 yards (1 by Isaiah Spiller; 2 by Devon Achane) and a 48-yard touchdown run by Spiller. Zach Calzada also connected on explosive passes of 21 yards (Ainias Smith) and 27 yards (Achane).

7 - Interceptions this season for A&M’s defense, which ranks 31st nationally. The Aggies picked off Connor Bazelak twice on Saturday. A&M had 10 interceptions all last season, 10 INTs in 2019 and 7 INTs in ’18 under the direction of Mike Elko.

#8 - Ranking for receiver Ainias Smith on the A&M career receiving touchdowns list. After a 2-TD receiving game, Smith now has 15 ... passing teammate Jalen Wydermyer and Tony Harrison and tying Malcome Kennedy for 8th all-time.

#9 - A&M’s national ranking in opponent red zone TD %. Despite allowing Mizzou to score a TD in its lone trip into the red zone on Saturday, the Aggies have given up just 8 touchdowns in 20 trips inside the 20 for opposing offenses.

#10 - A&M’s national ranking in sacks. The Aggies sacked Missouri’s Connor Bazelak 2 times and has 21 sacks through 7 games this season. A&M is #14 nationally in tackles-for-loss with 49.

13.7 - “Havoc Rate” for the A&M defense in the game. Havoc Rate is an advanced metric from longtime stat man Bill Connelly that is determined by calculating the total number of tackles-for-loss, passes defended (including INTs) and forced fumbles divided by the total number of plays. The Aggies had 2 interceptions, 0 forced fumbles, 1 pass breakups and 7 TFL (2 sacks / 5 run TFL) vs. Missouri. That’s 10 “Havoc points” divided by 73 defensive snaps for a game rating of 13.7, meaning that the Aggies created havoc on exactly 13.7% of the Tigers’ offensive snaps. For the season, A&M’s Havoc Rate is 16.9 (84 havoc points in 496 defensive snaps). Last season, the Ags had a Havoc Rate of 19.1 and it was 18.6 in ’19. A&M ranked 5th in the nation in 2018 with a Havoc Rate of 20.4.

#14 - National ranking for A&M DL DeMarvin Leal in sacks. With 1 sack and 2 tackles-for-loss against Mizzou, Leal now has 5.5 sacks and 8.5 TFL (#22 nationally) through 7 games this season. That’s a 12-game regular season pace of 9.5 sacks and 14.5 TFL. In the SEC, only Alabama’s Will Anderson (7.0), Ole Miss’ Sam Williams (6.5) and LSU’s B.J. Ojulari (6.0) have more sacks than Leal this season.

21 - First quarter points for the Aggies at Mizzou. That’s the most points scored by A&M in the opening period of a game since 2016 vs. Tennessee.

52% - Completion percentage in the game for Calzada one game after completing 67.8% of his passes in the win over Alabama. The third-year signal caller went 13-of-25 for 148 yards and 2 TDs in Columbia.

292 - Combined rushing yards for Spiller and Achane. Spiller led the way with 168 yards and a TD on 20 carries, while Achane added 124 yards and 2 touchdowns on 16 carries. That’s a combined 8.1 yards-per-carry average.

1999 - The year of A&M’s last win in Columbia prior to Saturday. The Aggies were 2-7 against Mizzou in the 9 games since that win in ’99 heading into the game this weekend.
