Dave south was horribly imprecise, but he was usually correct with whatever generality he spat out other than the distance. Monaco does not know what the hell is happening until 3-4 seconds after the play is dead. That lag is painful, especially at key moments.
South:
"McGee drops back to pass, pressure, throws, that's a catch, still on his feet, close to the first down marker, now they are marking it 3 yards from the first down marker"
Elmendorf:
"It was a slant pattern, caught by Schroeder. Hit immediately. Looked like he might shrug it off. He fell forward for another yard. They came with a blitz and Mcgee got rid of it right away, but we only pick up the first down if he can make the defender miss. Give the defense credit for a good play call there."
With Monaco, it goes like this:
"Mond is in the gun. He is gesturing to the sideline. Here is the cadence. Mond's hands are set. Spiller to his right. Mond is clapping his hands to get the play off. Snap. Give to Spiller. Explodes at the line of scrimmage. There is a big pile. I can't see where they are marking it. Spiller hit the hole with power. As a reminder we are sponsored by _________. Be sure to show your Aggie spirit when you _____ with ____. Officials are marking it as no gain. Looked like his momentum would carry him forward for at least a few.
Elmendorf:
It was just inside zone and he got hit in the backfield. Prater struggled to sustain the block. Credit Spiller with getting back to the line of scrimmage.
Monaco tries too hard to sound like someone who has been doing it forever. He does not get the basic facts as a result. Dave South was painful, but Monaco is worse.
