Key notes from Pat Henry interview

  • We had some good performances out in Tuscon in the Willie Williams Classic. We had a lot of people excited to get out there and compete — guys like Carlton Orange, who only has this outdoor season left in his collegiate career. I think we have many names that people don't currently know about, but by the end of the outdoor season, they will.

  • I was very impressed with a lot of the performers on our men's side. Devon Achane went out and ran a 20.7. We were very pleased with how he ran. He's still got more in the tank, and I think that Achane will put up an even better time after a few more runs.

  • Achane trains really well, and he's getting better at it. He wants to be great — that is something you can definitely see. He is a great competitor. He is using his arms a lot better, which I think will help him on the football field. He will run in both the 4x100 and the 200m this weekend at the Texas Relays.

  • Tyra Gittens and Athing Mu both took home Athletes of the Year honors for the indoor season. Their performances were incredible. Athing was recognized as the best female athlete in the country, college or otherwise. I'm extremely excited for both of them.

  • I want to mention that following the Texas Relays, we will have our first-ever dual meet with the University of Texas, so it'll be a lot of fun. It will be in Austin this year, then next year back here in College Station.
