Key notes from Olin’s analysis on Ausbon
-
I think you could make a strong case that he should be #1. He's productive. When I think about Jhamon Ausbon, he's more often than not making a catch in a big situation. If it's 3rd and 7, who are you throwing to? I think about the catch he made across the field against Georgia. When he caught the ball, you knew he was going to score. He has amazing determination and great hands. He has been extremely reliable. He was responsible for 70 percent of A&M's deep balls last year.
-
Against Oklahoma State, he caught a touchdown just before the half. He is a clutch guy. When it's all on the line and you need a play, I think he's the guy you look for.
-
I think he has completely dedicated himself to this year. To make a baseball analogy, he's the .330 hitter with enough power to hit 15 to 20 home runs. If you're not careful, he'll get deep on you and make a 40-yard catch.
-
Remember the Gator Bowl when Trayveon Williams made that long touchdown run? The only reason the last man couldn't get him was because Ausbon was down the field blocking for him. He's physical and he does whatever it takes.
-
Other than a couple of drops in a game during his sophomore year, I can't think of anything to point out as a "problem" with Jhamon's game. The only knock is that you could say he's not a really fast guy, but he still makes a big chunk of the big plays. I can't think of anything that is a negative.
-
I think he'll be an NFL player, and I think he'll play quite a while. After that, I think he'll be an analyst because he has incredible vocal skills.
-
As we talk about the other guys, we're going to be able to make a strong case for them to be #1, too. If it were a debate, if you were to look at the "pro" side of the argument for Ausbon, it would be very tough not to rank him #1.
-
I know that he has put everything he has into this season to become better and more explosive. This will be a 10 game season, and I think the ball will be spread around more, so the statistics will be more spread out. However, when they need a play, I know who they'll be looking to.
-
I hope that Jhamon Ausbon finishes his career as the all-time leader in receptions here because that will mean that A&M will be playing in some extra games. That will take a lot, but it has been done before. I don't know where he will finish ranked in all of the statistics, but I do know that he's a heck of a football player.
