Notes from Olin’s breakdown on McCollum

• He is really hard to project because back issues can be lingering. If he's 90 percent healthy, I think he can make a positive impact. Last spring, 2019, he was the offensive MVP. I like that he had a lot of self-confidence saying he wanted to be better than Erik McCoy. I do think we need to consider, he won that Spring MVP having to block guys like Bobby Brown and Justin Madubuike.

• Every indication was that he would've been the starting center last season. Anyone that has had back issues knows they are hard to overcome, especially when supporting a 300-pound frame. I think he will be a solid contributor if he slots into that center position in 2020.

• I remember back in 2018, McCollum played some at guard, so if Matthews or Robinson come in and show that they're ready to take over at center, maybe we do see McCollum shift to guard. All that would do is raise the play of the other two incumbents at the guard position.

• My gut feeling is that Ryan McCollum is reasonably healthy going into the season and he will win the job at center.

• Assuming that he will be healthy, I think he is as big a factor as anyone on the offensive line. Last season, the center position was just physically overmatched too often. I think Ryan McCollum can make a huge difference.
