With senior night on Thursday against Alabama and the regular-season finale on the road at No. 1 South Carolina on Sunday, the No. 12 Aggies head into the last weekend still jockeying for seeding in the NCAA tournament. Gary Blair spoke to the media about the last two regular-season games.

Key notes from Gary Blair interview on TexAgs Radio

  • We’re healthy right now. We’ve got a full roster. Our hot streak is good and our kids are enjoying each other. We’re moving the basketball and getting open shots rather than having to create shots. This time of the year, everyone knows every man to man offense. We won at Bama without Carter, now we have to adjust a little and they have to adjust as well.

  • Auburn tried to play us in a zone. Kelly Bond-White (associate head coach) does a great job on the zone offense. You learn to use the tools around you. I have a team a manager, a support team of people who help me, and I have a basketball team that is playing really well.

  • Chennedy Carter played that last ball game so effortlessly. She wasn’t having to be on the floor as much as she normally is. She’s playing defense and is learning to play smarter in the system because her talent is better than any guard in the league.

  • If you go back to some of the great wins we’ve had, its when seniors step up and realize their role. Jasmine Williams is directing our team from the bench. As you get older, you find your role on the team and learn to accept it and maybe become the most valuable person rather than the most valuable player.

  • Alabama has a very good ball club. They’ve played Tennesse and played Georgia close. The coach there used to be an assistant at A&M and her husband is an Aggie. Give them a lot of credit. They have arguably the second-best point guard in the legaue. We’re gonna have our hands full. The top 7 in the league, I’d pick them to finish 5th or 6th in the league. They will go 8-8, and if they do that they will make it as long as they win their first in the SEC tournament.
