Aggie men's basketball gunning to extend win streak against Texas Southern

Coming off the high point of this basketball season, Texas A&M (5-5) aims to avoid duplicating the low point of last season when the Aggies face Texas Southern (3-9) at Reed Arena. Tipoff is tonight at 7:00 p.m.

The Aggies evened their record with a surprising 64-49 victory over Oregon State (9-2) last week.

Senior forward Josh Nebo scored 15 points and blocked eight shots, while guards Quenton Jackson and Savion Flagg each scored 13. Also, freshman forward Emanuel Miller had 13 rebounds.

The Aggies also limited Oregon State to 33.3 percent shooting from the field.

Previously, A&M had struggled on the offensive boards. Against Oregon State, the Aggies had 12 offensive rebounds and scored nine second-chance points,

“That area was definitely something we focused on because lately, we were missing a lot of shots," Nebo said after the Oregon State game. "So our focus was to just get the ball on the rim and see if all our guys crashing can try and get the rebound and give us another opportunity to shoot.”

The Aggies will hope that trend continues against Texas Southern, which upset A&M 88-73 a year ago at Reed Arena.

Guard Tyrik Armstrong leads Texas Southern with a 15.2 scoring average. Forward Chris Bolden averages 9.4 points and guard Chris Jones averages 9.0.

The Tigers are mired in a three-game losing streak, but that includes a competitive 84-78 loss to No. 6 Oregon.
