The History of The Wrecking Crew

Throughout the late 20th century, R.C. Slocum’s defenses were known for a fun, fast, stifling and downright nasty style of play that never left opposing offenses wanting more. In Aggieland, however, they were simply known as 'The Wrecking Crew.'

"Between the crowd, the defense, and the atmosphere....people hated to come play here...."

I miss those days. Here's to still hoping they'll return!

Wording it as "late 20th century " makes me feel so old...

The Wrecking Crew is dead now. There will never be another group like those given the rules today. I was blessed to be a student during their reign.

Great video! It sure was fun watching the Wrecking Crew play defense. I would love it if our defense could play balls to the wall like the Wrecking Crew of old and earn the right to be called the Wrecking Crew again.

Attitude is the key, we need this mentality back

Physicality will follow

The 12th man was essential to the WC success, let's keep this video in mind when we yell at Kyle

I remember during those years it was not uncommon for the opposing QB to not make it thru the entire game. I know they don't keep stat's for this...but it'd be cool if they did.

Glad I at least got to witness, in person, the tail end of the WC from '95 through '98

Every year there are wrecking crew defenses. You don't have to break jaws, just need to be one of the top defenses against the run, the pass, scoring and creating turnovers.

I can confirm that the 1984 Arkansas was cold, wet and miserable

and also coach is mistaken about the tu game in 84: we beat TCU first and then tu in the last game of the season

I was lucky enough to see the Wrecking Crew just about from the beginning. Two defining events are etched in my mind. The hit by Coryatt and the holding up of Ware's helmet. It is scary to think that for a split second I feared
for where Andre Ware's head was! That was the loudest reaction I've ever heard in Kyle field.

Would this be called as targeting in today's game?

It's a violent hit, but the receiver takes a couple of steps and has his turned forward...

I was waiting for someone to post the Buckley hit!

I liked the video cause I just like hearing RC talk.

Coryatt actually held up. He could of crushed this kid if he wanted to. That wouldn't have been just targeting... it would have been manslaughter.

absolutely.

And #3 would have been called for unsportsmanlike also.

Love it!
