Notes from Liucci’s breakdown on Cupp

  • He began his college career this spring. We got a sneak peek at him. He looks like one of those five-star talents that will live up to the hype. He’s the most coveted tight end talent that A&M has signed since Martellus Bennett.

  • When A&M offered Cupp, he was a three-star. They gave that offer to him based on what he can do when he develops.

  • This spring, he has gotten better and better with each of the 15 practices. He’s adjusting to the college game.

  • His blocking got exponentially better during the spring. That’s where he can make his biggest immediate impact.

  • I can’t wait to see what he looks like later this week. I think he will look as big as anybody in college football in pads.

  • There’s going to be a learning curve. There will be a game or two when the physicality gets to him. There will be moments where it gets to him.

  • He will be extremely productive in the passing game from day one. He is the Freddie Krueger of tight ends. He’s the nightmare of all nightmare matchups.

  • Wydermyer is a dog and will block his ass off. Jimbo says Beal is one of the only guys who can knock Bobby Brown off his spot coming off the ball. Baylor has that kind of potential as well. Imagine what having two guys out there with that kind of blocking prowess can do. I think all three of these guys have NFL potential.

  • I think he might have the kind of year that could make him a pre-season All-SEC pick going into next year.

  • I could see him producing half as well as Sternberger did in his first season. These three guys, who knows? They could combine for 10 touchdowns vs. Texas State, Lamar and UTSA. The way they throw to tight ends, I believe they will cause problems for SEC defenses. That position is going to be a strength with Cupp leading the way.

Baylor will be a star in this offense. He will hold all the TE records before he leaves Aggieland.
