Record-setting A&M QB Jerrod Johnson talks upcoming Legends Game
Key notes from Jerrod Johnson interview
- It’ll be great to get back on Kyle Field for the flag football game. It will be cool to play with Sammy Davis. There is other options for me to throw to, but Sammy and Dante Hall are the two standouts, even though Christine Michael will really want the ball. Curtis Dickey is gonna have to at least get one go route. Everybody is going to get the ball we’ll be sure to spread it out. Martellus Bennett will probably get sick of coaching and will get out there for a few plays. He’s a very creative person, so he’ll have some interesting plays dialed up.
- I hope no one gets in the way of Christine Michael because he won’t hesitate stiff arm and hurdle some people.
- I’m excited to see this backup quarterback competition. Connor Blumrick is freaky athletic and talented. He has great size too being around 6’6 and 210. I’m excited for people to see how special of a talent he is. He’s more comfortable in the offense and has had more time adapt to the offense than Zach Calzada and James Foster. A&M has a shot to contend next year so backup quarterbacks are vital in case Kellen Mond goes down. I imagine Blumrick is in the lead just because of how long it takes to learn Jimbo’s system.
- There will be a big jump for Mond with it being his second year in a new system. These guys have been practicing against each other, so the results shouldn’t matter as much as how well they command the offense. How do they command the team and also how accurate are they. I want to see Mond expand what he does on offense and command the offense. That’s what it takes to be an elite quarterback in the SEC. With the talent A&M has at receiver and Jimbo Fisher, he has the chance to be the second best quarterback in the league.
- I got recruited in A&M basketball my second year in high school. I was fully committed to being a basketball player until my senior year, when i flipped to football. Buzz recruited me at Texas A&M and when he took the job at Colorado State. I was actually his first basketball commit at A&M. He’s such a quality person, and guys will want to play for him. When I was in Chicago he reached out a few times to make sure I knew that if there was anything I need, he was there for me. Buzz is a home-run hire and he’ll be great for the program.
- There may be some things in the works for me in regards to coaching.
