Charean Williams discusses Jace Sternberger's special friendship
Key notes from Charean Williams interview
- I think they are fun to watch. They play tough, they play until the end and to the whistle. We thought they would be 2-2 but they were very competitive with Clemson. This is the best team that Alabama has maybe ever had and I don’t think they’re going to lose any games. The Aggies need to stay sharp down the stretch with this tough SEC schedule including Kentucky and LSU. I think it is probably an 8 win team. I think if they win 10 games it’s a year of over-achieving.
- Jace Sternberger has a really cool story. A lot of people knew that he was a nice guy and I’ve said that I think he is the best tight end since Martellus Bennett. He grew up moving around Oklahoma with his parent’s jobs inside of the school system. When he was going into 8th grade he met this kid, Alfonso, who was going into 7th grade and he had been diagnosed with brain cancer. Well Alfonso spilled milk on his shirt one day at lunch and Jackie Sternberger took him down to the office where Jace was working as an aid. Jace went to get him a new shirt and asked if he wanted a red shirt or orange shirt and Alfonso said “I don’t do orange.” And they were really friends from then on.
- They were only friends for six months but Jace said it felt like forever before Alfonso passed away from the cancer. Jace has that really intricate tattoo on his arm to remember Alfonso forever. It shows that there are still good people and there is some hope in this world. Jace has two brothers of his own but he has basically adopted Alfonso’s brothers as his family now too.
- Well it’s really hard to say but the Cowboys have been terrible passing the football. They have three passes that have traveled 15 yards or longer. Dak isn’t having time and he’s making bad decisions. There are just a lot of problems with that offense that they will have to fix if they even want a decent season. I think Dallas tried to address the wideout and tight end groups but none of their draft picks have really panned out. You have to put a lot on the front office for these decisions no question.
- I was hoping you were going to Ryan Tannehill. He is the reason that the Dolphins are 3-0. It’s been a great season for Aggies overall, but Ryan is doing really great. He has just done an outstanding job so far.
- I think Myles Garrett and Von Miller have a chance to lead the NFL in sacks. I would probably take the field just with Khalil Mack having a great season but there is a good chance that Garrett and Miller lead the league in sacks and have a chance to win defensive player of the year.
