Texas A&M Track and Field wraps up season at NCAA Championships

The Aggie men and women’s track teams wrapped up their season at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, OR. The men finished in seventh place with 29 points, while the women's team placed 19th with 15 points.

The University of Georgia won the championship on both men's side, while USC won the championship on the women's side.

Over the course of the four-day event, some of the best finishes on the men’s side came in the triple jump and the 4x400m. Sophomore Trahari Triki captured a gold medal and first place in the men’s triple jump with a best jump of 16.79m (55-1). And on the relay side, the relay of Bryce Deadmon, Kyree Johnson, Ilolo Izu and Devin Dixon ran a season’s best time of 2:59.91, good enough for second place and a silver medal. With their performance, the fastest ever runner-up finish in NCAA Championships history, A&M owns four of the top-10 fastest times in 4x400 collegiate history.

For the men’s Decathlon, Nathan Hite took 18th place with 6,518 total points in the combined events. In the field events, Jacob Wooten finished in fourth place, just missing the podium with a best mark of 5.55m (18-2 ½). His teammate Audie Wyatt finished in 14th place with a best mark of 5.30m (17-4 ½).  Triki also performed well in the long jump, taking 8thplace with a best jump of 7.86m (25-9 ½)

On the women’s side, freshman Sammy Watson grabbed first place in the women’s 800m in a time of 2:04.21, grabbing a gold medal. Her teammate Jazmine Fray finished in eighth place in the same event with a time of 2:07.34. In the 4x100m relay, the Aggies took seventh place posting a time of 44.26. In the Heptathlon, Tyra Gittens earned eighth place with 5748 total points.

In the field events, Serena Brown took 13th place in the discus finals with a best throw of 50.48m (165-7). Lajarvia Brown earned 11th place with a best jump of 13.19m (43-3 ¼).
