Texas A&M Basketball set to hire Jeff Reynolds as assistant coach

Billy Kennedy will add former Air Force head coach Jeff Reynolds, who is currently the Director of Scouting and Game Management at Virginia Tech, as the newest assistant coach for the Aggies.

Reynolds became head coach at Air Force in 2007, and in five seasons at the helm of the Falcon basketball program, he led his team to one postseason appearance and was one of only two coaches in program history with multiple conference tournament wins.

After his time at Air Force, Reynolds spent two years at Marquette. He has been in Blacksburg working for Buzz Williams for the last three seasons.

Reynolds began his coaching career 40 years ago in the high school ranks immediately after his collegiate playing days. A short three years later he made the jump to college coaching.

After just four seasons as an assistant in college, he was promoted to head coach of Division III program North Carolina Wesleyan College. During his career, Reynolds has also spent time on the sidelines of UNC-Wilmington, UNC-Greensboro, Winthrop, Wingate University and Tulane.

With the Aggies, Reynolds is expected to help in a multitude of ways, mainly focused on game management and the offensive attack of the new look Aggie roster. With four decades in the game, his experience as a head coach at all three levels of NCAA basketball will be a bonus, enabling him to help develop and adjust game plan strategy.

Kennedy will be adding a coach who Buzz Williams hired to improve offensive production and game planning both at Marquette and Virginia Tech. He's also a guy who has developed numerous recruiting relationships throughout his career, as well as harnessed relationships with basketball minds at every level (NBA, college, high school). He's a wealth of knowledge that has the potential to immediately help Coach Kennedy adjust to the major roster changes from last year to now.

Having a background in the service academy, his discipline and work ethic will be expected to translate to the players on campus. Reynolds has the expectations of living in the gym with the current players to improve their individual skill sets and team mentality, as well as being an integral part of game preparations.

Let's keep hiring former Buzz assistants so he doesn't need to change the staff when he gets here.

Yeah, so sad we have been in the Sweet 16 twice in the past 3 years! Look, we know our basketball program could be better, but at least be fair and realistic on where we stand !

its obvious where we stand . we stand stuck with a coach who shouldn't be here. i could care less about the 2 ncaa appearances. the program is mediaocre and will stay that way as long as kennedy stays here. looks like thats going to be forever.

Hopefully this guy is a good X's and O's Coach and can step up and say something when BK is hit with the brain farts at end of each half!

I am curious as to how much less you could care. On a scale of 1-10.

Plus cedar's attempt to spell "mediaocre" was mediocre at best.
Like anyone can even know that.

We're hiring a guy who hasn't been an actual assistant coach in six years as an assistant? Am I reading that right?

Its ok because he has developed several recruiting relationships in his 30 year career.

I am sure this will be just the guy to fill the emotional void that BK leaves

Didn't Bud Foster at Virginia Tech just hire away one of our football staff who was in a non-coaching position and was a Sumlin hire as one of his defensive assistant coaches?

Did the AD's get involved and make a trade?

I don't think Maestri is a true assistant coach, I think he's on the support staff technically even though his title is "special assistant."

This guy, best I can tell, will actually be the third assistant meaning he'll be one of the ones eligible to recruit. (You can have like a million staffers, but only three can actually recruit off campus.)

Maestro was brought in for a nice tidy TRS retirement package from his buddy Kennedy, nothing more, nothing less. BK is such a swell guy.

you're right, i forgot Maligi was the 3rd assistant. coincidentally, he wasn't coaching either at the time he was hired, but that wasn't what I was talking.

Yeah, Maligi wasn't coaching, but he was at least in the recruiting game.

Another stellar hire. This guy can't have any Texas recruiting connections?
