To paraphrase the legendary Aggie coach R.C. Slocum, the first game is a “statement” game. It’s an opportunity to send a message of who and what you represent as a team. In the case of the 2011 Aggies, it was also the chance to validate their top-10 ranking. The catch for Texas A&M, however, was the fact that its first outing wasn’t the typical warm-up game that most nationally ranked teams face.
