Damion Ratley picked by the Browns in 6th round of NFL Draft
Texas A&M receiver Damion Ratley, who overcame a problems with dropping passes in a solid senior year, caught the attention of the Cleveland Browns. The Browns made Ratley the first selection of the sixth round of the NFL draft on Saturday.
Ratley was the third Aggie selected behind receiver Christian Kirk and safety Armani Watts.
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Ratley started his career at Blinn Junior College where he had 45 catches for 1,197 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2014. He brought that big play ability to A&M the next season but was inconsistent in his first two seasons with the Aggies. He caught just 15 passes in 2015 and only two in 2016.
However, last season he was thrust into the starting lineup and demonstrated that big-play ability. He caught 30 passes for 694 yards and six touchdowns.
Ratley, though, may have made his biggest impression at the A&M Pro Day when he clocked 4.45 in the 40-yard dash and had a 38-inch vertical jump.
Ratley figures to have a solid chance to make the Browns roster, a team that needs productive receivers. No Cleveland wide-out had more than 27 receptions last season. The Browns also selected receiver Antonio Callaway of Florida in the fourth round Saturday.
