The No. 15 Aggie women’s basketball team traveled to Nashville and dominated Arkansas in the second round of the SEC Tournament, 82-52, behind the strong play of their guards.

Senior guard Danni Williams and SEC freshman of the year Chennedy Carter led the team from the get-go, controlling the game’s tempo and lighting up the scoreboard. Williams was accurate from downtown, nailing four three-pointers and finishing the game with 22 points. Carter finished the game with 19 points and distributed the ball well with eight assists and also grabbed 13 rebounds.

Khaalia Hillsman was another key factor for the Aggies down in the paint with 10 points and 13 rebounds. When it was all said and done, A&M outrebounded Arkansas 63-32 and controlled the boards all game long.

The Aggies got out to a fast start thanks to their shooting in the first quarter. Carter led the offensive attack and her teammates were finding open looks. After the first 20 minutes of basketball, A&M had basically put the game away with a 41-19 lead.

After the Maroon and White jumped out to a big lead, head coach Gary Blair was able to use his bench to give his starters rest for Friday's game. Between Lulu McKinney, Jada Walton and others, the bench scored 19 points.

Devin Cosper led the Razorbacks on offense with 15 points and was followed by her teammate Malica Monk with 13 points.

A point of emphasis for A&M in the next game against LSU will be turnovers. Despite blowing Arkansas out, the Aggies had a hard time holding on to the ball, committing 18 turnovers.

Freshman Kayla Wells was injured during the game after hitting her head on the hardwood floor. As the game went on, she didn’t return after showing concussion-like symptoms.

The Aggies will return to action Friday against LSU in the third round of the SEC Tournament. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
