For the second straight game, the No. 17 Aggies (14-5, 3-2 SEC) went to overtime at Reed Arena, but A&M couldn’t hold on, falling to Georgia, 92-84.

Freshman Gabby Connally had a big day for the Bulldogs, scoring 37 points and going 13-14 from the free throw line. Her free throw shooting allowed the Bulldogs to pull away and seal the game in overtime. Her 37 points were the most by a Georgia freshman since 2005.

“I guess today I had a few open looks so I decided to take them, and my teammates were telling me to let it fly and that’s what I did,” Connally said after the game.

Connally and her teammate Mackenzie Engram gave A&M trouble from the three-point line. The duo went 4-11 and 6-7 from beyond the arc respectively. Engram ended the contest with 23 points.

A&M went into the half down seven and fought its way back behind Anriel Howard and Chennedy Carter. Offensively, Howard finished with another double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 15 rebounds, while Carter recorded 31 points and four rebounds. Howard’s strong third quarter helped A&M take the lead after playing from behind for the first 30 minutes.

“Howard here had one of her bests games she had in a long time, “ head coach Gary Blair said following the loss. “And when you go for 15 and 14 with three assists and one turnover and play 42 minutes, that’s a pretty doggone good effort.”

Despite her strong offensive performance, Carter said the team as a whole needs to focus on closing out games down the stretch.

“It’s just one of those nights where things didn’t go as expected,” Carter said. “We have to learn to do things differently, especially when we get into overtime. That’s the second straight overtime game, so we have to learn how to pull away I would say. We just ran out of time tonight.”

A&M will continue conference play Thursday night when it travels to take on Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on SEC Network +.
