Texas A&M dropped its SEC home opener to Missouri in four sets, 21-25, 25-22, 25-12, 25-22, on Sunday at Reed Arena.

Hollann Hans led the match in kills and reached the 20-kill mark for the third time in her career, Camille Conner notched 25 assists and Amy Nettles recorded a match-high 15 digs.

“The adversity has been coming at us left and right the past two weeks, and I just think we’re really trying to find who we are on the court,” head coach Laurie Corbelli said after the match. “It leaves you with a team that has a lot of question marks in their heads. It’s unacceptable volleyball.”

The Aggies claimed the first set after they jumped out a 15-9 lead and scored three of the final five points to secure the victory.

The second set was a back-and-forth affair that featured nine ties and five lead changes. With the score tied, 14-14, the Aggies won four of the next five points to take an 18-15 lead, but Missouri responded with a run of its own to close the gap and scored the final four points to win the set.

Sophomore Maddie Douglas was inserted into the starting lineup for the first time of her career in hopes of sparking the struggling Aggies, and she came through with a nice performance. The Georgetown product’s six kills were second on the team and she also collected two aces.

“The number one thing I try to bring is energy,” Douglas said. “I think that’s something that’s super important. When we have our backs against the wall, it’s important that we don’t back down and we’re not passive. I just try to bring that competitive energy to the floor whenever I can.”

Missouri dominated the third set, scoring 14-of-16 points at one point, and then came out on top in a tightly contested fourth set to win the match.

"We're just looking for where to put our talent," said Corbelli, who tinkered with the Aggie lineup all afternoon. "We think we know where they're supposed to be, but when it's not working, you have to try other things."

The Aggies travel to Georgia on Friday, September 29, to take on the Bulldogs. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. and will be televised on SEC Network +.

Did they mention anything about Reasor's injury, was it just an aggravation of a previous injury?

They usually don't discuss injuries except on how it related to the match itself. Reasor might have had a solid match before her injury but we don't set the RS enough to determine how well we will be from the RS pin. 4 total attempts prior to her injury is too few IMO

This team has the #1 SOS in college volleyball but dropped from mid 20s to 48 in updated RPI futures and went from a 14-11 likely season to 10-15 according to the numbers. This seems about right IMO. Unless we pass/ and attack from the second OH position for points it will be one of the hardest seasons to watch. I think we have to move Blake to RS and allow the two middles to get significant playing time and hopefully get some attacking in when in system. This wont work being the Hans show.

Our average percentage of total assists/ per total attempts has gone down steadily even though we have played not near as good of competition in the last two matches as we had in the previous 5-6 matches. This indicates either poor set placement (which isn't the case, except we need better middle timing/connection) but really is a strong correlation to first contact either in serve receive or dig along with inability to terminate OOS balls from the outside on a consistent basis from the second outside. I think our dig placement on the opponent attacks is pretty good so it really boils down to serve receive.

As for offense we cannot win if a multitude of sets are going to the outside. We have to stay in system more and attack with the set coming from in front of the attackers approach rather than behind. But regardless
there is no reason that the OH2 position should have 1 kill in an entire match. PERIOD. and yet that is exactly what we had.

I hope we are able to right the ship because I want this group of seniors to go out on a winning note but the SEC is improving and we are 0-2 and should be likely 2-0 based upon what we have done the previous three years.

Mcgee played at first - looked not good - jerked ! Hurt ?

When will our team be taught to put the ball in their back court when returning on last hit from our back court ?

This has been a problem as long as I can remember. Gives the opponent an easy set up for a kill instead of making them work for it !

You want to leave the ball short and in the corner to make the middle play the ball and then attempt to transition to swing. By giving a freeball deeper it allows the middle to set up and time for a potential attack thus even if not the actual attacker it holds the middle blocker giving a seam to the pin hitters. This strategy employed by the TAMU when it comes to sending it over without a real attack is commonplace and used by most if not all teams at the elite level.

McGee was ineffective because there wasn't a seam to attack. She may still have some injuries she is dealing with but I don't think that was why she was pulled...inability to get an attack against a well formed block had more to do with it...her replacement faired no better statistically

Sounds good BUT I do not remember winning a single point this way. Usually ends up with a kill down our throat !

Most freeballs should result in a kill. At this level
