A&M Volleyball coach Laurie Corbelli on the road ahead, team health
On how to rebound before conference play...
"Well,
the good news is that we have only lost to teams in the top five or six,
and the plan was really to leave the preseason with exact understanding of
where we need to make changes. Our lineup has so many new players in
it. We have many freshman starting. We are just excited that we have so
much good information on what doesn't work and what changes we need to
make (to go from) good to great. Right now, we are really good, but we want to be
great. We have a prescription, and it has been proven. Some of the things
that work well we aren't going to change, but the other things we know
exactly what we need to do."
On the loss to Texas...
"Well,
they're just incredibly physical. He has had the top recruiting class
in the nation for the last 4-5 years. They do have the top talent. They're all touching at eleven feet. Not many teams can do that at all. I
think they presented a really big block that can be difficult to get
around, and it proved to be a little bit much for our players. They
played great defense behind the block. They have a mixture of seniors
and youth, but when they really needed a point they went to their
seniors and certainly got them. Every team is going to have a different
blend of experiences, including us. We just really need our seniors to
be reliable and lead. Our freshmen follow them."
On overall team health going into conference play...
"We've
had four starters out this week with whatever is going around, so we
have had players out, which is no excuse. It is just what we have to deal
with. I think injury-wise we are relativity healthy. We have this
weekend off, so it is a perfect time for us to take a deep breath and get
some rest, rest our bodies, hydrate and get ready for SEC play. It
feels like a new season coming on us. I want our team to feel that, feel
refreshed and know we are going to make the changes we need to make. I
have an awesomely positive outlook for what lies head for us, and I hope
the team does too."
On preparation for LSU...
"We
haven't started yet with LSU. Right now, we are in the middle of getting
that preparation process ready. I think the team just needs to get away
from volleyball for a couple of days, be normal and then come back next
week ready to focus and get after it."
