Key notes from Jackie Sherrill interview

  • People don’t realize that the SEC wanted A&M more than A&M to the SEC. When you look at the total package, you bring the largest fan base in the SEC and the largest student body. The biggest thing to the SEC that helped get the package from ESPN was the Texas market that A&M brought.

  • The original package when the SEC expanded they were going to 16-teams, Texas and Texas A&M would’ve been in the west division and Florida State and Miami would be in the east. The state legislature didn’t let Texas and A&M leave though unless Houston and Texas Tech go as well.

  • Two former Aggies that are agents in the FBI, they wanted to start a golf tournament to help the FBI Association. They take care of all the fallen FBI agents and their kids to go to college, in fact, one just graduated from A&M. They have teamed up with the Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital, and in a very short period of time they raised and distributed over $300,000. We get agents from all over the country and what the money goes for is incredible.  For more information, visit the G-Man Jackie Sherrill Shootout Facebook page.

  • We get a lot of support from former Cowboys like Roger Staubach, Tony Dorsett, Randy White and Ed “Too-Tall” Jones. We get a lot of support from those guys. Some of the guys play but they all come and help out. Randy White is the auctioneer. This year, Randy will be giving away some custom knifes and Roger Staubach will be giving away tickets in his box to the Metallica concert at Cowboys Stadium.

  • TexAgs Rare FBI revolver to be auctioned off at the G-Man Jackie Sherrill Shootout.
This year we will also be giving away a .357 pistol that is made especially for FBI agents. When they issue these guns, they issue it with the FBI seal on it. The serial number begins 'FBI' and then the agent's badge number. You can win this in the live auction done by Randy White, you can also go to Facebook Live and participate in the auction that will take place on Monday at 2:30 p.m. You can also proxy your bid by calling 214-559-7656.

  • I think the Browns will take Myles but who knows, you don’t really know until the fat lady sings. It happens every year, there is so much discussion around the number one pick. You are going to get negative talk about these players. You won’t find anything wrong with Myles’ character, so people are really looking at his film. The first time I saw Myles, you saw him doing things that other people his size can’t do.

  • This spring, you really focused in on the quarterbacks. They threw to the tight end quite a bit, too. You didn’t see the total package though and you won’t see that until you line up at UCLA. The one I wanted to see most was Anthony Hines and unfortunately he didn’t play in the spring game. The last few years you’ve had some lineman and great defensive ends, but A&M did not have the linebackers. I don’t know how long its been since A&M has had a great linebacker making plays.
