#16 Texas A&M Volleyball Drops Three Straight Sets to #6 Wisconsin

It’s been a tough week for the #16 ranked Texas A&M Aggies (6-5). They played two top ten teams in a matter of three days. A&M came off of getting swept by long time rival #2 Texas Wednesday night. If that left them with a bad taste in their mouth, it didn’t show.

The #6 Wisconsin Badgers (7-1) came out in the first set and set the tone with five straight points before the Aggies could muster up one. A&M was able to climb back within two making it 11-9 after putting together a string of kills.

That would be the closest the Aggies would get. The Badgers closed out the first set without looking back, 25-16.

After dropping the first set, A&M came out with a little bit more of a spark. The Aggies and the Badgers traded points to start things off. This set looked promising for A&M.

After trading points, the Aggies took a nice 10-5 lead. The Aggies, however, couldn’t hold on to the lead, and let Wisconsin back into the game. The Badgers were able to capitalize on a few A&M errors and timely kills to even the score at 13-13, and from there they coasted to close out the second set 25-17.

Heading into the third set, A&M needed to find its groove to keep the match alive. Once again the Aggies showed signs of life and started the set off trading points with the Badgers until they were tied at six.

This would be the story of the final set, with nine ties and three lead changes. Every time Wisconsin would pull away, the Aggies would climb right back and tie it up. They weren’t going down without a fight.

The Aggies were going to make Wisconsin earn this one, taking it down to the very end.  When it was all said and done, the Aggies came up short and lost the final set 25-22.

This wasn’t A&M’s finest performance, with key errors in timely situations and Wisconsin capitalizing on those opportunities. Hollann Hans had another big game for the Aggies with 13 kills. She had her second double-double of the year and the first of her career.

Texas A&M closed out their non-conference schedule against the Badgers and will open up SEC play next Friday against Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Is that a loss to every ranked team played so far? One positive, got to see Lauren Carlini play in person.
