Texas A&M assistant Kyle Keller to be next Stephen F. Austin head coach

Following a Sweet Sixteen appearance for Texas A&M, Billy Kennedy's staff is getting the recognition it deserves.

Just seven days after Rick Stansbury left Aggieland to be the head coach at Western Kentucky, the Aggie basketball program is set to have another assistant lured away by a head coaching position.

Kyle Keller is expected to be announced on Monday as the next man in charge of the Stephen F. Austin basketball program. This will be the first head coaching job of Keller's career.

Leaving Bill Self and the Kansas Jayhawks, Keller came to College Station to be an assistant under Kennedy five years ago. He played a major role in the resurgence of the Aggies' recruiting footprint in Texas and across the country, helping A&M land a national top-10 recruiting class while also being the lead on a few key foreign recruits.

Kyle will be taking over a very established basketball program in Nacogdoches. Over the past three seasons, the Lumberjacks have amassed a record of 53-1 in conference play. This past season SFA went undefeated in conference play, then defeated 3-seed West Virginia in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

What this means for Texas A&M:

Kennedy is now tasked with replacing not only one, but two assistants. He was very close to announcing a hire to replace Stansbury, but the loss of Keller may change some plans.

I would still expect BK to make a move on his first hire early this week and possibly a second hire by the start of next week (that's a lofty task, but something completely achievable).

Recruiting prowess will play the biggest factor in the next two hires, as Kennedy just lost two very good recruiters to head coaching positions.
