Aggies talk progress, finishing strong after shutout of Vanderbilt
After Saturday's game, the list of positives for Texas A&M was longer than it's been in several weeks. Kevin Sumlin and his players took to the microphone to break down their 25-0 defeat of Vanderbilt, Kyle Allen's start and much more.
Kevin Sumlin
• Played with a lot of energy ... made adjustments. Guys flew around and made plays. First shutout since 2004. Heck of an effort.
• We moved the ball. Kyle (Allen) came out early and was accurate. Great red zone D. Bertolet was again a weapon for us.
• Took care of the ball. No turnovers and won the TO ratio. On the road, to do that was really good.
• Special teams were outstanding tonight. Blocked a punt ... should have had another one. Good return from Kirk. Covered well. 6 FGs.
• Want to say how much team and coaches appreciate our fans for traveling. I don't know how many Ags were there but it was special.
• Pretty happy locker room in there. To get the first shutout in 11 years ... we're far from over-confident but needed to get confidence.
QB Kyle Allen
• I'm a pretty even-keel guy. I knew in my heart that whatever happens will be for a reason. Very excited for the team.
• There were times in the game when Spav said, "Let's run verticals and see if we can run by these fools." Reynolds did that.
• Going into the season, I set goals for what I wanted to do. Nothing much changed (when I was out). Tried to be the best leader.
• A lot of confidence ... especially with the way we've won. This game showed who we are as a team. We have our swagger back.
RB Tra Carson
• Good confidence booster. Team got swagger back and we're back on the right track.
DE Daeshon Hall
• Played complete defense tonight. Most complete game on D so far.
• Had a good game plan. Coach Chavis and the defensive staff put us in position to make plays.
DT Alonzo Williams
• Made a big emphasis on stopping the run this week. Good adjustments.
• First shutout in 11 years. We came in at halftime and wanted the shutout. We came together and pulled it off.
