T.D. Moton commits to Texas A&M, will enroll in spring

The Aggies just added a potential impact player for the 2016 season, as former Mississippi State signee, one-time Alabama commit and blue-chip Shreveport Woodlawn DT T.D. Moton has made the decision to play for John Chavis and the Texas A&M defense.

From the outset, this was a matter of Moton being cleared by the NCAA since he was a non-qualifier from the 2015 class who sat out the fall semester. Now that he's cleared, the plan is for the former four-star recruit to visit Aggieland officially for the Auburn game and enroll at TAMU in January. The 6-3, 310-pound defensive tackle will have five years to play four, just like a traditional high school signee, and will count back toward the Class of 2015.

Moton addresses one of the few lingering needs for this year's recruiting cycle, as the Aggies have been searching for the right guy — and preferably someone with legitimate SEC West size — to add to the defensive interior. He was a very highly regarded prospect coming out of Louisiana a year ago, holding offers from the likes of A&M, Bama, Georgia, Notre Dame, Florida State and Ole Miss, among others.

Matt Sachs, TexAgs Moton will go through a full offseason and immediately be an able part of John Chavis and the Aggies' 2016 DT rotation. {"Module":"photo","Alignment":"left","Size":"large","Caption":"Moton will go through a full offseason and immediately be an able part of John Chavis and the Aggies\u0027 2016 DT rotation.","MediaItemID":60895}
A quick, powerful and very disruptive defensive tackle, he was also a no-brainer take at the position once he was cleared to return to the open market.

Because he'll be here for an entire offseason and take part in spring ball, the one-time Alabama commit has instant-impact potential in an Aggie DT rotation that will be looking to replace seniors Alonzo Williams and Julien Obioha following this season.

In five games as a senior at Woodlawn (he missed a few because he transferred high schools), Moton lived up to his four-star status by totaling 54 tackles, eight TFL, five sacks, three forced fumbles and a one fumble recovery returned for a score.

Moton will only add to the Ags' ever-improving inside stable and give Chavis another big-bodied, physically superior interior lineman to team with Daylon Mack, Zaycoven Henderson and Kingsley Keke when it comes to the younger talent on the roster.

The Ags are hoping to add one more DT to the 2016 class, with Elkins' Ross Blacklock and Westfield five-star Ed Oliver standing out as the targets.

Very excited, but holding my breathe until he signs -- I assume he can change his mind before he enrolled, but hoping I am wrong...

Good luck to him but he has already tried to get in at 2 other SEC West schools and A&M is the 3rd. I know some of y'all won't like what I am about to say but there is a reason LSU didn't offer and passed on this young man.

Let's see, Chavis passes on the young man when Chavis is a "genius" at LSU. Now Chavis takes him at A&M.........Hmmm??

Article says four-star, but ratings services say three-star. http://247sports.com/Player/TD-Moton-29430

Either way, if Bama was recruiting him, he has to be good.

He was a 4 star before the grade issues, 247 had him ranked as a 94 and then dropped him down. He would have been our 4th ranked player in 2015 behind Kirk, Mack and Murray with his original rank. ESPN still has him as a 4 star.

All the natural talent to succeed. Hopefully he has the work ethic as well. One year more mature couldn't hurt. He may come in with a good attitude as his road to NCAA football wasn't as easy as some other highly recruited athletes.

Another Louisianamal.

A&M needs big guys on the D Line so we get a good one. Then comes why didn't LSU (Chavis) take him. Why didn't he go to Alabama? Why didn't he go to Mississippi State? The NCAA cleared him for 5 to play 4 but there must be something wrong. The next thing we'll here is one of his feet is bigger than the other.
