Around Aggieland: September 7th, 2015
Soccer
- The No. 3 Texas A&M soccer team lost to No. 5 Florida State 3-1 on Friday. The Aggies maintained a 1 point lead until the 67th minute but the Seminoles pulled away midway through the second half.
- Redemption came to the Ags on Sunday with a 4-1 win over the Abilene Christian Wildcats at Ellis Field.
- Haley Pounds had her first hat trick scoring three goals in a span of 12 minutes 37 seconds in the second half.
- The Aggies begin SEC play this week on Thursday in Gainesville against the Florida Gators. Game will start at 6:00 PM and is scheduled to air on the SEC Network.
Women's Golf
- Texas A&M fell 6.5-2.5 to Texas on Sunday in a special-format dual match at Traditions Club in Bryan.
- The Aggies recorded no wins in the best ball morning session but snagged 2 in the afternoon match play. Wins came from Thanya Pattamakijsakul over Sophia Schubert 2&1, and Bianca Fabrizio over Maddie Luitwieler 2&1. Maddie Szeryk halved her match with Karcher.
- A&M won’t play again until Oct. 19-21 at the Schooner Fall Classic in Norman, Oklahoma.
Volleyball
- Aggie Volleyball swept the competition this weekend to win the 2015 Texas A&M Invitational at Reed Arena.
- Opened up Saturday with 3-0 victory over Wichita State and wrapped up the day with a 3-1 win over Abilene Christian.
- Stand out players on Saturday were sophomore setter Stephanie Aiple, leading the offense with 38 assists and senior middle blocker Shelby Sullivan with 14 kills against the Shockers. Emily Hardesty, junior outside hitter, had a career-high of 18 kills in addition to junior middle blocker Jazzmin Babers tying her personal best of 19 kills in the win against the Wildcats.
- The team clinched the championship against New Mexico State with a 3-2 victory on Sunday.
- With 20 kills apiece, both Jazzmin Babers and Kiara McGee posted career highs to help the Ags seal the victory.
- Babers ended the weekend with tournament MVP honors and was joined by Kiara McGee and junior outside hitter Emily Hardesty on the all-tournament team.
- Aggies will head to Iowa City for the Iowa Comfort Suites Challenge this Friday and Saturday.

Cross Country
- The team started their 2015 season off right earning a pair of team titles at the Aggie Opener on the Dale Watts course Friday evening.
- With Lamar falling short to post a team score, the Aggie women finished with 15 points trailed by UTSA who had 50. The men finished with 24 points followed by Lamar with 46 and UTSA with 60.
- Individual victories were accomplished by A&M juniors Karis Jochen and Cameron Villarreal.
Football
- After an exciting 38-17 victory over Arizona State this Saturday two Aggies earned SEC honors.
- WR Christian Kirk was awarded SEC Freshman of the Week.
- DE Daeshon Hall earned SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week.
