Aggies add commitment from Tennessee LB Tyrel Dodson
Texas A&M's recruiting push into the eastern SEC states only picked up after Defensive Coordinator John Chavis' arrival — and on Friday it paid its first set of dividends.
Franklin Centennial (Tenn.) linebacker Tyrel Dodson arrived in College Station Thursday morning seeking to confirm his high interest in the Aggies, and it seems he did. At the conclusion of his unofficial visit the 6-2, 235-pound Dodson committed to Texas A&M, giving Kevin Sumlin's staff nine 2016 commits and its first '16 linebacker pledge.
Dodson is regarded as a top-10 prospect in the state of Tennessee and one of the state's best linebackers.
As a junior in 2014 he played both running back and linebacker, making 72 tackles, two sacks and three interceptions and forcing two fumbles on defense.
Centennial coach Brian Rector had previously reached out to Chavis about Dodson's interest, which led to A&M's offer in early May. He also held offers from Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois and Arkansas, among others.
