Get to Know ... A&M forward/guard Courtney Williams

On what makes this years team unique…

“I think this team makes us unique because we have a lot of guards, and we are fast, faster than we have been in the past. I think together off the court we bond really well. We are always doing things together, going out to eat, going to the movies and stuff like that. We have a new transfer, she just came in and I think she fits in really well with us so I think that’s what really makes us unique.”

On her favorite memories growing up around basketball…

“My favorite memories would be when my dad used to take me to 24 Hour Fitness right after school to go play and work out. I would be on the other end watching him play against his friends and stuff like that. I would also say when Tracy McGrady came to Houston because that’s why I wear number one. I used to always love him while he was in Orlando so when he came to Houston I really loved him then and that was a good memory. I could just say playing AAU. AAU was really fun, and playing basketball with my friends and traveling.

On reuniting with teammates in college after playing AAU with them…

“It was good because I had already known them and wouldn’t have to be getting adjusted to everyone on the team. They could just guide me through what needs to be done, which is exactly what they did. Kelsey Bone and Karla Gilbert guided me and told me what I needed to do. AAU was really fun with them, especially Karla, because I remember the first time asking her what grade she was in, she said the 10th grade and I couldn’t believe it. Just them being here and Coach Harris being here was also good because her and her daughter were on the AAU team too and always traveled with us.”

On being a McDonalds All-American…

“It was really good. It was the first time Jordan Jones and I clicked and got to know each other. It was really fun being able to play against the top talent in the country like Breanna Stewart, who was player of the year last year, Jewell Loyd, Moriah Jefferson and Morgan Tuck. It was really fun getting to hang out with them and see how they act and how they interact with other people so that was really cool.”

On what attracted her to A&M…

“I would have to say the coaches and I was comfortable around the national championship team. That’s what really drove me here. I was really comfortable around Tyra White, Danielle Adams, and Sydney Colson who is here right now, so I mean that team just really made me fall in love with A&M. Also like I said, Coach Harris really recruited me hard when she was here and I just really loved the atmosphere. I used to come to the camps and I used to see the team interacted with each other so I really liked that.”

On what another tournament appearance or NCAA title would mean to this team…

“It would mean a lot. It would be great to go to the NCAA Tournament and hopefully win another SEC championship like we did my freshman year. That was awesome. It was the first year to be in the SEC and not being the underdogs, but people didn’t think we were going to win it because it was our first year and had to get adjusted, but that was fun. Hosting the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament here would be really great having our home crowd here because I think it makes it easier when we are more focused. I think some people on our team just needs to experience that atmosphere of the NCAA Tournament and of course to win a national championship because that is the ultimate goal so that would be great.”

On what it means to be an Aggie and represent this school…

“It means a lot. The six core values, that’s just everything. They are building champions around here and I just want to be a champion one day on the highest level. Building champions, I mean that’s what we do here.”

On her ideal dream team for a 5-on-5 game…

“At the point guard I have Jordan Jones. at the two guard I have Kyrie Irving, at the three I have me, at the four I have Kevin Durant, and the five I would have Brittney Griner.”
