"We're trying to figure out who from last year has improved, who's the same, and who we brought in here can help us right now."
"(Tommy Sanders) has improved. He's flying around. He's really fast. He's gotten stronger. Last year, when he got here he had a real shoulder problem. Because of that, he was shy physically and he was undersized. He was limited in what he could do. He's really shown flashes here lately."
"(James White) is good enough, but we've got three other guys that are pretty good, too."
"Trey (Williams)'s improved strength-wise. He's made the jump and understands why he didn't play much early in his career. These meetings in the summer have really helped. He's night and day from where he was two years ago."
"The idea is not to have five pennies (on the offensive line). It's to have a nickel. Everything needs to work together, and that's what we are searching for right now. You would think that would be the five most talented, but that's not always the case. It's the five guys that can communicate and work as one."
"Once we put shoulder pads on, we're playing football. When you put pants on, we'll tackle. They handled it well."
"It's probably the first time I've seen the police department put out a statement on something like (the Speedy Noil situation), and I'm glad they did. It was a situation where his family was hurt, and put him in a bad situation which he didn't have anything to do with. It was a case of irresponsible journalism. There's no way around that. To put that kid in that kind of position is just not right."
"I anticipate whoever is playing the best through fall camp will be starting versus South Carolina."
"(Joe Cheek)'s still got to get some communication stuff down with Mike (Matthews). That’ll come. We’ve got two tomorrow. That continuity and trust is built every day. The video work is important and that work out there is important."
"We’re trying to get better everyday. We aren’t worried about where we were last season. We have to get this group put together and build continuity. By the time South Carolina comes around we need to be rolling."
"We’re going to find the best five guys. It just depends on how we evaluate other guys, where they fit. (Germain Ifedi has) done a nice job and we have some more depth on the defensive line. So there’s some true power guys where he has to anchor and some stand-up speed guys that he is having to put a true wide set on tape and punch a guy around the quarterback. We’re getting some really good evaluation from our new defensive personnel."
"(With Ifedi) it’s just experience, seeing all the looks and figuring out the answers and the tricks. Ced is helping him with that. He’s coming along nicely, he just needs to get better tomorrow."
"I just want to see them grind (in two-a-days). It’s tough — you show up in the morning. We’ll take a little off of them, put them in shocks so they won’t have all the pads on them, but the tempo needs to be fast and be able to create our own energy and fight through tomorrow. You’ll see that with these first two-a-days."
"I’m pleased with where (Mike Matthews') targeting is at. He’s got a list, like everybody, of what they need to work on. We’re grinding away at it."
"Avery (Gennesy) has done a nice job of learning the offense and Germain is getting better at it. We’ll keep giving him more as the camp goes and see if he’ll prove to us we can trust him."
"I’ve never gotten this much reps with young guys, but we have so much depth on both sides that we’re able to take some plays at the end of practice and throw all young O-line vs. all young D-line and let them get after it."
"(The Matthews are) a great family. Mr. (Bruce) Matthews and his youngest boy were out here and I know they have fun coming out and watching practice, and following Mike and following Jake in Atlanta. It’s a neat family.
"I need to lead by example and not slack on anything."
"We can't be five individuals playing together. We have to be one single unit."
"After Kevin and Jake came here I felt like I had to follow in their footsteps and I made the right decision."
"The first game I attended at Kyle that stood out to me was when A&M was playing Texas. They scored on a deep ball and I remember hearing the roar of the 12th Man."
"Both Kenny and Kyle are doing great and I see good things from both of them."
"I'm working on making fewer mental errors. I want to make sure they have to do work to beat me. I don't want to make it easy on them."
"I've been in touch with Jake. He's doing great. I miss him, but he's off to bigger and better things now in Atlanta."
"Every day I'm trying to get better. Wherever I'm playing, I'm going to work as hard as I can to get better."
"I'm very motivated and look up to the guys who have went from here to the NFL. They set the standard. They taught me that you can have a great day and still have things to improve on."
"Cedric is in my ear every day telling me what I need to work on. I'm blessed to have him here."
"We love the competition on the offensive line. We're always competing... No matter what it is."
"Every day the important thing is to get better at something. There's always something to work on."
"I've dropped some weight and I'm at a better place. I'm at 320 pounds."
"The defensive ends we compete against at practice love competing as well. They make us work and will make us better."

"The energy's been great. We were in pads for the first time and we did some situational stuff, and did some live 11-on-11 for about 20 minutes or so.""We're trying to figure out who from last year has improved, who's the same, and who we brought in here can help us right now."

"Both (Garrett Gramling and Jarvis Harrison) are doing a nice job. We’re moving them back and forth in different groups, working on getting Jarvis’ weight down a little bit. It’s heated; we’re evaluating it every day. Got some good live work today. I think it has motivated Jarvis. It’s the whole room, not just one or two positions. You have to find the five guys who play well today and have continuity.""I anticipate whoever is playing the best through fall camp will be starting versus South Carolina."
