Spring Day 5: Sumlin breaks down progress, new developments
"The energy level has been really good."
"We have a lot of position battles going on and lots of movement on the offensive line."
"Kam Miles didn't play last year, so we have to find another guy anyway. Davonta Burns is a guy that can help on safety. He's shown up during spring practices. He's right in the mix with the other three guys. This doesn't open up the option of Deshazor Everett moving to safety."
"The new guys being here for spring practices give them a chance to start or be the first backup."
"Garrett Gramling is a big dude. He really gives us some flexibility at guard to move some guys around."
"I've seen a bunch of guys at quarterback that are pretty good. Matt Joeckel's competing at a high level and understands the offense. Kenny Hill is a lot more focused right now and is doing some good things. Kyle Allen is making strides every day."
"I thought our running backs ran very well tonight."
"Zaycoven Henderson was very noticeable today. He needs the summer to get into football playing shape, but he is a very talented young man."
"We're a third of the way done, already going into Spring Break. We'll be able to assess a little more after spring break."
"I'm happy with where we are right now. We've had a lot of offseason surgeries though, and it's giving some guys opportunities."
"A.J. Hilliard hasn't been talked about a lot. He's been a quiet guy but has the ability to play all three spots, at least two of them. He's a great addition to the team."
"We've known something about all the transfers we've gotten so far. It looks like most are going to be big-time contributors for this program."
"We have a lot of yards to replace at the receiver spots. We have quality young guys and they're pretty excited to play. Ricky Seals-Jones is moving well after his surgery. He was mad he couldn't play in the scrimmage today."
"We're dual-training a lot of our receivers this year to help understand the offense and spacing."
