Some Monday night recruiting quick hitters
I spent much of the day on Sunday at the Legends 7 on 7 Showcase in The Woodlands. The tournament was loaded with talented players from across the country. Here are a few quick notes I picked up throughout the day:- I spoke to a pair of Austin area folks who really spoke highly of Texas A&M's chances with Austin Westlake OL TJ Shanahan. As we reported, that Junior Day meeting with Steve Addazio went very well and has folks thinking the Aggies are the team to beat. - Both myself and Jason continue to be bullish on Texas A&M's chances with Denton Ryan LB Anthony Hill. One top prospect I spoke with yesterday who has been in College Station on visits with Anthony said he thought the Aggies were comfortably in the lead. I don't know that I'd call anything comfortable with a player of Anthony's caliber, but there's no doubt he's getting the full court press from both the A&M staff and commits. - El Campo RB Rueben Owens is still pretty wide open, but he did tell me (as we fully expected) that Jimbo Fisher is starting to play more of a role for Texas A&M in his day-to-day recruitment. Jimbo typically picks a few of "his guys" throughout a cycle, and it sounds like Owens will be one of those. - Del Valle WR Braylon James said he'll be making a couple more trips to Aggieland this spring. - Keep an eye on 2025 Katy Jordan WR Andrew Marsh. He put on a show yesterday and checks all the boxes to be a premier talent in his class. His older sister graduated from A&M.- A pair of underclass quarterbacks had a lot of good things to say about A&M. I spoke with both 2024 Willis QB Derek Lagway and 2025 Beaumont Kelly QB Roy Thomas Jenkins at different points yesterday. They both said they'll be back in College Station soon and loved their experiences there so far. Lagway has also been up to 91 on the mound as a sophomore so it'll be interesting to see if baseball plays a role for him down the line. It sounds like the Ags are in an outstanding spot for both signal callers early on, though.- I mentioned West Orange-Stark DB Jamaal Shaw last week as a potential offer. I saw him yesterday, and he said he's expecting to speak with A&M this week. I'd also add La Grange ATH Bravion Rogers to that potential offer list. He told me that the Aggie defensive staff has begun reaching out more in the last few days. - Katy Paetow S CJ Johnson mentioned that he'd been on the phone recently with TJ Rushing. He's an intriguing prospect with a great frame. He's also the younger cousin of LJ Johnson.- Baton Rouge (LA) CB Jordan Matthews didn't hide his affinity for A&M. He told me - just like he told Howell in their last interview - that he's very close with Eli Holstein, and he's got plans to get back to College Station on multiple occasions in the future. Again, I like where the Ags sit in that one heading into the spring. - Lastly, some of my Houston sources believe Ft Bend Marshall DE Zach Chapman is still under heavy offer consideration this spring. He missed all of his junior season with a knee injury, but he looks like a million bucks and is back to being fully fit.

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

TexAgs Rating

The TexAgs Recruiting team of Billy Liucci, David Sandhop, Jason Howell, Ryan Brauninger and a host of recruiting interns attends more than 75 games each fall and observes and evaluates every major Texas A&M target, as well as most of the top 150 prospects in the State of Texas. From this evaluation the team draws a rating for each prospect on a scale between 70 and 100.

99-100: Elite national prospect (Five-star)

Considered one of the best prospects in the nation and a likely difference-maker at the collegiate level. Displays all of the physical skills to be a future All-American with potential to be an early-round NFL draft pick.

90-98: Elite state prospect (Four-star)

Considered one of the best 30-40 prospects in the state and a top 250 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to be a major early contributor at the collegiate level with high professional potential.

80-89: Quality prospect (Three-star)

Considered one of the best 100 prospects in the state and a top 500 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to develop into a contributor over the course of his college career. Has the ability to become a professional prospect over time with development.

70-79: Solid prospect (Two-star)

Considered one of the top 250 prospects in the state. Has the physical skills to be a potential contributor at a D-1 program over the course of his collegiate career with significant development. Professional potential is low.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
