A few Monday recruiting quick hitters
- As you'd imagine, the Aggies have not cooled on their pursuit of CyFair RB LJ Johnson Jr. I was told today that he's spoken to the A&M staff on more than one occasion since the Orange Bowl win on Saturday night. I also know that guys like Bryce Foster, Tunmise Adeleye, Deuce Harmon, and Eli Stowers have all reached out to him in the last 48 hours or so. - I spent all day Sunday hitting some 7 on 7 tryouts in Houston. I spoke directly with a handful of top prospects in the 2022 and 2023 classes, and there were a lot of people at those tryouts talking about the job Jimbo Fisher has done in College Station and the culture he's implemented. One current college player I spoke with out there told me, "There's a night and day difference between what's going on at A&M and what was going on in Austin."- 2022 Ft Bend Marshall WR Chris Marshall was at the Fast Houston tryout, but he was not participating due to a hamstring issue. I spoke with him for a while though. He's extremely close with Devon Achane and was pumped to see him take home the Orange Bowl MVP trophy. He said Devon called him after the game, but he had already gone to bed. So, Chris called him back the next morning and was able to talk about Devon's performance. My gut says Marshall has really sky rocketed up A&M's big board in terms of priority in this next cycle, and the Aggies will have a great chance to grab him. - Interesting note: Port Arthur Memorial CB Jaylon Guilbeau told me he had just gotten off the phone with A&M CB coach TJ Rushing yesterday when he arrived at the Fast Houston event. It doesn't sound like there's too much to get excited about at the moment, but he has not stopped communicating with Rushing or Jimbo Fisher while being committed to Texas. I suspect he'll give Steve Sarkisian a chance to keep him in the Longhorn's 2022 class. - Another Golden Triangle prospect committed elsewhere is Beaumont West Brook S Bryce Anderson who was spectating at the Texas Stars tryout in The Woodlands yesterday. He is still verbally committed to LSU, but he's talking with Texas A&M an awful lot. He's extremely tight with Ish Aristide and loves what the Aggies are building in terms of their defensive culture. Bryce understands football at a high level and is fond of the safety role in Mike Elko's defense. I still believe Texas A&M will be a major player in this recruitment whether Anderson is publically on or off the market. - I also spoke with elite 2023 RB Rueben Owens who released his top 5 last night and included Texas A&M. Owens isn't in a hurry to make a decision and told me he'd probably wait until around this time next year before committing. From talking to people near him, it sounds like A&M and Oklahoma have stood out earlier on with the Sooners using their typical "all out" approach to see if they could grab an early verbal pledge. Based on my knowledge of the situation, I suspect the Aggies to hang around in this one for more than a little while due to their on field success and their recruiting portfolio. - A few more 2023 names that I really liked that I saw yesterday: Beaumont West Brook WR Javon Sorrell - bouncy athlete with huge raw potentialShadow Creek LB Scott Koumado - highly impressive introduction. Early offer candidateStrake Jesuit QB Bryce Fucik - Great frame, clean motion, high IQManvel CB Corey Swiney Jr - physical, sticky young corner prospect- I continue to hear the Aggies are taking a strong look at 2022 Ft Bend Marshall CB Adari Haulcy. This kid's junior tape is very strong. He only allowed 3 catches all season and managed to pick off 7 passes. - Lastly, I've heard there's some mutual interest with 2021 Port Neches-Groves QB Blake Bost and Texas A&M in joining the Aggies as a preferred walk-on. We'll see what happens as Bost does have some lower level offers, but in terms of adding talent as PWOs, that would be a good one.

Sunday night recruiting and playoff notes
Made the rounds on the phone tonight to see what I could get on a few of A&M's key targets. Here's what I've got...- Like you'd expect, the Aggies have in no way cooled on their pursuit of CyFair RB LJ Johnson Jr. The talented, one-cut back has been speaking with various members of the A&M staff quite frequently. The 2021 signing class has also done a great job of recruiting LJ, as well. He did not sign early, but a Houston area source I spoke with tonight felt like LJ would likely make a verbal commitment prior to the February signing date. Now, until I get that straight from the kid, I wouldn't put that in stone, but it was interesting to hear that some folks believe the timeline could be sooner than most thought. - I spoke with a pair of sources tonight who both believed the recruitment for Oradell (NJ) DT Tywone Malone would absolutely go down to the wire in February with the general feeling that it's a battle between the Aggies and Ole Miss as things currently stand. You've got to remember, baseball is going to play a key role here. One of the contacts I spoke with told me Rob Childress and Justin Seely have done "an exceptional job" of aiding Jimbo Fisher, Mike Elko, and Elijah Robinson in the recruitment of Malone. It is my belief that the baseball side of things is also what is keeping Ole Miss very much in the running. Sure, Lane Kiffin is an outstanding recruiter, but I've got to believe the Rebel baseball program is keeping them in the hunt. Florida State, Tennessee, and Rutgers continue to do what they can to hang around, as well, but like I said, my contacts said they felt like it was going to be an SEC West battle. - Rumors circulating that Bryan-College Station could be hosting some of the state's top recruits and matchups in the semifinals next week. Manvel is already slated to play Cedar Park this coming Friday at Merrill Green Stadium in Bryan, but I've heard schools such as Ft Bend Marshall and North Shore could make their way to town assuming they win their games this week against Crosby and Ft Bend Ridge Point, respectively. North Shore would likely matchup with Austin Westlake out of Region IV. That would be a lot of fun. - Speaking of Ft Bend Marshall, I got to watch the Buffs absolutely dismantle Nederland on Saturday afternoon at Turner Stadium in Humble. I wrote my thoughts on 2022 A&M WR offer Chris Marshall yesterday, but I was told tonight that the Aggie coaching staff has begun to take an interest in two more kids down there in Missouri City. The first one is 2022 CB Adari Haulcy who has been outstanding all year for the Ft Bend Marshall defense. The coaching staff told me he's given up 1 completion all season, and he's been picking off passes at an astounding rate. He had two more INT's against Nederland, one of which he returned for a touchdown. As a prospect, he's a bit in the Deuce Harmon mode in terms of his body type and play style. I'll be really interested to see what his stock does this offseason. He's a really good one-on-one, cover corner who I think would shine in a camp setting. The other name to know at Ft Bend Marshall is 2023 DE Zach Chapman. Don't be surprised if every school in the region offers this kid soon, including Texas A&M. He's 6-5, 245 pounds and passes the eye test in a big way. I told Looch and Howell that this kid reminds of DeMarvin Leal when I saw him as a sophomore. Huge frame, enormous wing span, giant hands and athletic traits that are starting to catch up with his body. He's also pretty good on the basketball court from what I understand. Chapman is just scratching the surface, but it's easy to project him as an elite, national type of recruit. This is a kid I'd love to see A&M go on super early, like they did with Tunmise Adeleye a few years ago. Here are some clips of him from their playoff game over the weekend. https://twitter.com/R_Brauninger/status/1342890734635151360?s=20https://twitter.com/R_Brauninger/status/1342896477585215489?s=20https://twitter.com/R_Brauninger/status/1342948237402124288?s=20https://twitter.com/R_Brauninger/status/1342936861430394891?s=20https://twitter.com/R_Brauninger/status/1342931554314629121?s=20

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
