Tested positive Christmas morning, started otc meds of Tylenol, Claritin, mucinex and vitamins. Body aches, malais and cough and felt ok but this morning like a crash.
With flu more prevalent this year has there been a combination flu/ Covid virus infections?

BTW Houston Methodist virtual Dx was great.

I know two people who tested positive for both at the same time. Most people I know have been tested for both at the same visit. Were you tested for flu? Your symptoms could definitely just be Covid, though.

I hope you feel better soon

If they were covid pcr tests and flu tests it was probably just the flu, pcr apparently doesn't distinguish between the flu and covid.

That's an inaccurate statement based on a rumor from the summer of 2021.

Is this not real?

I've read that multiple times and don't see where it states that the tests misidentify Covid when a patient has the flu.

Here's some clarification for you: Nebraska Medicine.

The PCR tests are being eliminated so that the new tests can be used. The new tests can test for multiple viruses at one time. The original tests ONLY test for Covid. The new tests eliminate the need for multiple swabs. Scientists are pretty amazing people. I love the way they seek to improve the field of medicine.

Thanks. Should get better. Just home tested twice for Covid both being positive.

This part is what I was referring to:

CDC encourages laboratories to consider adoption of a multiplexed method that can facilitate detection and differentiation of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses.

I assumed that meant the current method CANNOT facilitate detection and differentiation of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza viruses.

That is partially correct. The original tests couldn't detect the flu virus. They also didn't confuse it with the Covid virus. The new tests can detect both without confusion. It's an improvement because it simplifies diagnoses for the provider and the patient.

I have a test in the next room in my clinic that does Flu A Flu B and COVID in 16 minutes from a single swab.

PCR can tell them apart these days. We got it about a year ago.

I have not seen flu + COVID in the same patient yet. I have seen COVID and flu in the same day.
