70%+ of UK is vaccinated, so is this indication of an issue with vaccine or is there another explanation?

Between 2 January and 24 September 2021, the age-adjusted risk of deaths involving coronavirus (COVID-19) was 32 times greater in unvaccinated people than in fully vaccinated individuals.

What does that have to do with non covid related death increases?

The shot reduces the chance for severe symptoms, it doesn't mean immunity. I wonder how many of those deaths were from unhealthy or old people?

This is the OP's article headline-

Unexplained surge in non-Covid deaths triggers calls for probe

Almost 9,300 more people than usual have died from conditions unrelated to coronavirus since July

At first glance OP's question seemed like he was suggesting the vaccine wasn't working, but after reading the article I think his question about the vaccine may have been related to if the vaccine is causing the deaths.

Article suggests neither as far as I can tell.

...well... Covid WAS going to be statistically unnoticeable from 5-year population perspective* (virus' average kill age being the same as life expectancy). But the second-order-effects of our societal freak out will likely be far more impactful.

Ex: look at Africa shrugging the virus off but likely getting pinched hard by the ramifications of Chinese encroachments, higher cost for goods, and food shortages (which typically hit the poorest hardest).

*I fully appreciate that statistics are cold and that human loss sucks in almost all of its ugly forms.

The article provides a pretty logical and detailed explanation. So probably not the vaccine.

Especially because we are seeing better health outcomes even in non-covid related health issues in vaccinated people. Of course it is likely due to the fact that the vaccinated population is more educated, wealthier, and more health conscious as a whole. But this paper pretty much kills any theory that the vaccines are causing excess deaths.

Most suspect doctors are putting the cause of death as pnemonia instead of Covid so they don't have to do the extra paperwork. Suicide and drug OD's are also up.

The covid vaccine isn't killing anyone, that is 100% anti-vaxxer bs.

So there is not a single person on the planet that has died as a result of the Covid vaccine?

It's a waste of time to try to have a conversation with fools like this. They can't comprehend their own bigotry.

Yep...…lots of fat alcoholics who live and die (no pun intended) with their local football club.

The recent spike is a bit interesting. Vaccines? Most people would say no. If that is true, is it coming from a year of lockdowns which increased drinking / unhealthy eating / less exercise? So still maybe sorta COVID related?

Interesting and if it keeps happening its going to be hard to call it "coincidence" and cause will need to be determined.

On top of whatever long term effects people who recovered from previous COVID infections may have on various systems within the body. If these medical emergencies are anything more than coincidental and if there is any COVID relationship at all, I would bet it has more to do with prior disease than vaccines as a contributing factor.
