Covid or Flu? 6 days with fever

Started feeling bad last Friday, chills, body aches, headache and fever.

Negative at home covid test, so figured I have the flu.

But I have not gotten much better, still waking up on day 6 with 101 fever. Fever was highest yesterday at 102.5. Responds to ibuprofen/tylenol.

Is it usual to be sick or have fever this long with the flu? Maybe I got an incorrect covid result?

At what point do I worry about fever not getting better if this is the flu? Male, age 25, healthy by the way.

TIA

Nothing about your symptoms or story screams anything I would be too concerned about, right now at least. The fever can last typically up to around day 7 of symptoms, past that is uncommon. With 6 days of fever, though, I would probably talk with your doctor about doing some formal COVID/Flu testing because at least you have your source if it is positive, and if negative, and the fever is lasting greater than 7 days, it helps with the decision point about whether you need a more extensive workup.

8 days of fever is infrequent enough that I typically do a pretty extensive workup if they show up to the ER, and a large percentage of them I end up admitting to the hospital depending on the results of my workup and the severity of their symptoms.

Hope you feel better.

Somewhat better. I went to urgent care where they took a blood sample and diagnosed me with a bacterial stomach infection (although blood sample has yet to confirm) (also doing stool sample).

This was after saying my lungs sounded good, throat looked clear, and reports of some GI symptoms. Put me on antibiotic. This is day 3 on antibiotic. Seem to be doing a little better. Still low grade fever (around 100) when I woke up this morning. But getting by with taking less and less ibuprofen/Tylenol. But this is now day 9 or 10 with fever.

I should add: tested negative for flu and covid.

Temp this morning: 100.5, with last time taking Tylenol at 3 pm yesterday. This is the best I've felt not on anything and the longest I've been able to go without taking anything since onset of symptoms. Maybe antibiotics are working!

I've diagnosed 3 cases of Salmonella in the last 20 years that presented like this. It can be a tricky one. Hope you are feeling better.

Where are you located? I'm M, 32 and currently dealing with all your symptoms and would also consider myself healthy. Wednesday I started feeling bad and went home in the afternoon and that night my fever started. Thursday and Friday my fever bounced around from 100-103 and both nights I had very bad chills. Saturday I felt better and had a temp of 98.6 so decided to go out and do something's outside to get some fresh air after being in bed the last three days and since Saturday afternoon my temp has been bouncing from 98-100.5 and my only other symptoms are pounding headache and body aches. This is the longest I've ever dealt with something as long as this so made an appointment with urgent care system later today. I have a taken one of the FDA approved self COVID tests every day since Wednesday and have tested negative every time. I had COVID back in January and symptoms were relatively very minor compared to this. I've had one vaccine shot and was supposed to get my second yesterday but and waiting until this passes now. Any ideas?

Edit to add I just got back from urgent care and tested negative for both Covid and the flu. They didn't have a tech available that could administer a blood test so was told to go back home and if symptoms don't improve go get my blood test from ER or a different Urgent Care center.
