Went to the doctor last week for a physical...drew blood for routine tests and I asked for them to test for ant-bodies. Test came back negative for anti-bodies.

Now for the rest of the story. I had covid last November. This was confirmed by a positive test as well as covid symptoms including loss of taste and smell...also had other related symptoms...earlier this year had the shot...JnJ vaccine.....felt lousy for a a day and back to normal..

So I've had covid, had a vaccine shot and now test negative for anti-bodies...what gives? Bad anti-body test?

Thoughts?

Antibodies don't last forever. T-cell memory is a thing tho.

You're fine. And better off than most. Unless you're in SF, LA, or NYC, in which case your immunity doesn't count. Well it wouldn't aside from the vaccine. Natural immunity expires in 7 days.

So I should still have natural immunity at some level regardless of antibodies?

Exactly. Antibody testing is really not as useful as people think. Doesn't mean you're completely protected, but it certainly doesn't mean you're not. In essence, just ignore it IMO.

The lab likely tested for the envelope antibody. Yours is likely gone from your infection almost a year ago. They don't usually test for the spike antibody which is the one the mRNA vaccines produce.

If you were COVID infected and got the antibody serum test given in the Texas cares study, you would show both the nucleocapsid and spike protein antibodies. The only question is how high the numbers are.

The key point is that natural immunity produces multiple antibody types, that provide broader resistance to variants and a more robust memory tcell response. The vaccine produces the spike protein antibody, which effectively softens the blow for people to gain full natural immunity. If the vaccines were marketed this way, more people would probably get them.

I believe has been known all along, but the vaccines were promoted as a cure that was going to end the pandemic. That clearly isn't the case.
