Governor Ron DeSantis introduced to the press the new surgeon general of Florida, Dr. Joseph Ladapo.

An immigrant from Nigeria, Ladapo holds his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and his Ph.D. from the Harvard School of Public Health. He will be joining the faculty at the University of Florida as well.
And as it happens, his name is affixed to the Great Barrington Declaration, which condemns lockdowns as a public-health measure.
Ladapo didn't waste time letting the press know that he is their enemy.
"Florida will completely reject fear as a way of making policies in public health.... That's been something that's been a centerpiece of health policy in the United States ever since the beginning of the pandemic. And it's over here. Expiration date, it's done."
"The risks and benefits of decisions haven't been considered wholly and thoughtfully," he added, because policymakers and the public have been operating from a position of fear.
He went on:
"Public health is not one thing. Public health is not about a single item. It's not [only] about how many cases of COVID there are in a location.... As all of you know, that's how public health has been treated for the past year and a half. So that's over. It's not going to happen here."

Vaccination, he said, "has been treated almost like a religion."
And he denounced lockdowns, which he described (citing a study from the National Bureau of Economic Research) as both ineffectual and wrong.

"The great thing about the vaccine for COVID-19 is that it prevents the risk of serious illness. Fantastic. People get to make the choice about what they want to do with that information."
But he said vaccination is not the only path to good health.
"It's been treated almost like a religion and that's just senseless," Ladapo said. "We support measures to good health. That's vaccination, losing weight, exercising more, eating more fruits and vegetables, everything."

I wonder if the state government was paying for all the Regeneron treatments instead of the Federal government of de Santis would be so cavalier about 1300+ per treatment vs 40 for the vaccine.

What are you advocating here? That people should be compelled to get vaccinated because that's less expensive than getting sick?

You act as if it's a 1:1 ratio. One person vaccinated equals one person not getting regeneron. This is, of course, false and you know that. But doesn't stop you from trying to make the comparison. Is it worth vaccinating 1000 healthy people to spare one regeneron treatment? By your metric, no.

That is great...he is a lone voice in a sea of high profile health advisors actually promoting good health as a defensive mechanism against this virus.

Why haven't they been preaching this for the last year and a half???

The overwhelming majority of primary care physicians have been preaching it for 40 + years- you can see the sub-optimal results.

ETA: That being said I like this stance and agree with that doc.

Yes, but the beginning of this pandemic, when everyone was glued to the edge of their seat every day waiting for Lord Fauci and Cuomo's advice and infinite wisdom, was the perfect opportunity to start beating it into peoples' heads that this is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself from this virus. That being fat is THE worst thing you can do. Also getting outside, in the sun, and taking vitamin D, zinc, vitamin c etc.

ANYTHING but just shutting in for extended periods of time in darkness and isolation. Instead of preaching the importance of losing weight and being healthy in general, almost everything they promoted actually leads to things like depression, addiction and even suicide. "STAY INSIDE! LISTEN TO CONSTANT FEAR AND DOOM AND GLOOM! DO NOT SEE YOUR FAMILY OR FRIENDS FOR MONTHS ON END! YOUR BUSINESS MUST SHUT DOWN AND YOUR LIVELIHOOD RUINED FOR THE GREATER GOOD!"

Even if it would not have made a difference (I actually believe it would have saved lives), it would have been the right thing to do.

I was very healthy in the beginning. I'd get my Chick Fil A delivered to my house by the lower class instead of risking going out on my own. Glad we had essential workers to help me stay healthy.
