For those who are caring for patients who have been vaccinated and contracted Covid, are they losing their sense of taste and smell?

Can you contract Covid and not experience this symptom?

My wife and daughter had Covid (daughter asymptotic) and neither had that symptom. Oddly, I had a colonoscopy in June and was given the drug that Michael Jackson OD'ed on, and lost my taste and smell that afternoon and evening. I did not discover it until I was making salsa, pulled our cilantro, and thought it might be parsley instead. Could not smell it or taste it, so I went to my go to, habanero powder from the smoker, and nothing. Was back to normal the next day (not Covid, I did the antibody study).

My 65 yr old mother (fairly healthy, but overweigh) and 75 yr old step dad (overweight and a cancer survivor) both had COVID last October. Their symptoms only lasted about a day or two, luckily. Only had fever, and flu like symptoms. Thanksgiving weekend, my mom lost her sense of smell...a month after the COVID diagnosis...and still hasn't got it back. When she lost it, she didn't have fever/symptoms/etc.

My daughter had a break through infection and she lost her sense of taste and smell for a little over a week. It wasn't 100% at first but it slowly came back.

My vaccinated dad lost his smell and taste. It was his only symptom and lasted a couple days.

I think I read somewhere that with the Delta variant, less people are losing their sense of smell.

I know that my wife and I likely had this variant and both lost our smell for a couple of days. It's still not all the way back several weeks after.

Yes, a large majority of my COVID patients lose their sense of taste/smell.

Happened to myself included. Lasted only a couple of weeks for me. But for many, it takes months an some have yet to recover it.

My brother's wife's mom, sister, and dad all got Covid about 3 weeks ago (I believe the Delta variant). All have recovered. Sister lost her taste/smell and has not gotten it back. Mom did not. Not sure about the dad who was hospitalized. He is overweight and sedentary, in his late sixties, and is also fighting cancer. He has recovered though and is back at home.

I only know of three cases personally right now: all lost smell but not taste. Two of three breakthrough adults (30s), the other is 13 yr old.

Didn't lose mine.

But I was a "rare" breakthrough vaccinated case.

I tested positive on Thursday. No loss of taste or smell yet. Hoping it stays that way. I don't really have many symptoms.

Lost my smell in February, still only partially have it back.

All 5 members of our family had COVID in May. None of us lost our sense of smell or taste.

My son had Covid last week, positive test on Tuesday, and said later in the week things "tasted funny". For him he didn't seem to lose taste, but it was changed - not unusual in any virus/cold situation I guess. He only had fever one day (Tuesday), then tired/headache the next day, then he was over it. The other four of us in the house haven't caught it - yet anyway. You are supposed to be most contagious the day or two BEFORE you have symptoms, so it's been a week since he would have been the most contagious. If we can make it through next couple of days I'll feel lucky that four of us escaped it when someone else in the house had it. Having said that, my son was the only one unvaccinated - caught it after only 3 days of school, probably got it there.

Not near as many lose taste or smell that are vaccinated. Yes you can get Covid and not experience any change in taste or smell, I see that every day.

I wonder if I might have already gotten Covid in March of 2020. I initially thought I had bad allergies but decided to go to the doctor over continuous cough. I ended up testing positive for flu A and was told I could get tested for Covid for $100 (cash only). They were just starting to get cases in my community. Doc said I probably wouldn't have both the flu and Covid, so I passed to save the money. I ended up with a fever for only two days, but I had a cough that lasted over a month. Tried over-the-counter cough suppressant first and it did nothing. Got a prescription a few days later and it was like taking nothing. Coughed all night and had difficulty sleeping. Felt like I pulled a muscle in my rib from the constant coughing.

Anyway, I thought it was weird for the flu to have a cough that lasts that long.

You can do the Texas Cares study run by UT Health. Free antibody testing. I got the results the next day.

3 over 9 months. One blood draw to start. I hate needles but I did this, it is worth it to know I have active antibodies.

I didn't even feel the needle and they took only one vial.

In our large group that got it, I know many including myself that were fully vaccinated and lost ltaste and smell. I lost both for 10 days and then it started to return slowly but fully after another several days. A few others only lost both for a few days and it also came back slowly but fully.
