For the doctors on here, what treatments are being used on patients with the COVID pneumonia when it has been more than 10 days since they were diagnosed.

The doctors aren't prescribing any of the COVID treatments stating that it has been to long and they would not do any good.

Other than steroids what other treatment options are there that have given good results?

Summary - 51 year old Female:
- First symptoms on 7/31
- Positive test on 8/2
- ER visit on 8/6 diagnosed with pneumonia
- given Z-pack and dexamethasone (completed on 8/10)
- told to come back if oxygen drops below 91
- Admitted to hospital on 8/10
- unable to get blood oxygen above 88

last night 8/11 - bpap lowered to 3lpm and able to maintain her oxygen level above 90
this morning 8/12 - bpap increased to 6lpm and struggling to get to 90

Is there anything I should be asking the doctor to do or is there anything that is recommended?

Just looking for any sort of guidance. Since I can't visit my wife, she says that they are just giving her vitamins, zinc and steroids.

Thanks for any help

You STILL cannot visit your wife. It's after 10 days, and its a secondary, non spreadable infection. The medical community is who we are supposed to look to for mitigation policy yet they enforce needless policies like these. Stupid

What hospital in Houston?

BS that you can't visit.

Visitation for COVID patients is 2p-4p for a single person.

I'm not there whenever the doctors are checking on her, hence my request for what I should be asking about.

I know of 4 people that were hospitalized in the Houston area recently with 3 of the 4 having covid pneumonia. 2 checked themselves out of their hospital (I believe it was Methodist but am not positive) because they were not receiving "sufficient treatment" and refused to offer any of the alternate treatments.

They then went to another hospital and received the Hydrogen Peroxide Nebulization (I am not exactly sure if this is the proper term) and made full recoveries within a few days. The other 2 were relatives and went straight to that hospital/location when they had low O2 levels. All of them were 60+ including one late 80's.

This is purely anecdotal and I don't really know anything about the Nebulization treatment nor am I advocating for its effectiveness - but I do know it worked for them and they were all at risk. Probably worth having a discussion or maybe one of the docs on here can chime in.

I wish your wife a fast and speedy recovery!

My wife is 36 and had Covid pneumonia. She knew immediately that something wasn't right, O2 went down to 86-87 -- doc prescribed zpack and another med over the phone -- a day later, she was perfectly fine.

Doctors are still giving her Steroids injections and an inhaler breathing treatment and that's all so far.

Mentioned tocilizumab but said that there are no supplies in our area and that the last two doses the hospital received were out of Oklahoma. That doesn't sound very promising.

Starting to get worried as they continue to keep increasing her oxygen inputs to keep her levels above 90.

Just keep hoping that she will turn the corner and start improving.

Anyone with suggestions?

Call the manufacturer and ask who has tocilizumab? Then try to arrange a dose for your wife. Even if you have to pick it up.

I'd talk to your insurance about a 2nd opinion too.

Baricitinib is a possible alternative to tocilizumab. Many hospitals having supply issues with it as well.

I was in the hospital for 5 days with pneumonia. Get her out of bed. Get her constantly doing the breathing treatments. Have her lay on her stomach as much as possible.

I laid on my back for two days before the lung doc asked why I was on my back. No one mentioned that I should be on my stomach as much as I could. He wanted me doing the breathing exercises 10x a day. I did it 20. I also got out of bed and walked the room as much as I could. It sucked but I didn't want to escalate things.

Praying for her.

This is exactly what she is doing. Finally after two days they gave her some pain meds to help her. That is making it easier for her to push without her lungs screaming at her in pain.

Today she was able to sit and have a conversation without the oxygen. Now if she even thinks of exerting herself it drops to 80 really quickly.

When she was admitted her left lung was full and her right had only a small pocket. Today they said they could hear some air in her left lung so fingers crossed she is starting to recover.

My wife had covid pneumonia. Illbuterall made her HR spike so they switched to budesonide it helped. Took 10 days for her energy to get anywhere close to being back. Her steroids were methylprebnisolone

Anti body therapies don't really work after you already have antibodies. Neither do antivirals. If they think she has a bacterial super infection they will treat with antibiotics, otherwise she just needs to get her lungs to clear out the residual inflammation and start repairs. Incentive spirometry, lots of walking, etc., Should help, in addition to the steroids.

How long after vaccination was she infected?

I'm not a doctor, but I have been following trials of Zyesami (aviptadil) as an investor.

The results thus far appear to be at least somewhat significant in healing the lungs and in preventing and reducing cytokine storm (reducing IL-6), at least from my standpoint.

It is not yet FDA approved, but you may be able to secure access to treatment if interested by contacting:

Not a doctor, but would Actemra (Tocilizumab) be feasible here?

This is pretty much what worked for her.

Inspriometer, laying on her stomach, getting up as much as possible and not laying in bed.
