Many of you will recognize the name, Bill Phillips, as the author of the best selling fitness book of all time, Body for Life. Bill is a great guy who has donated over $5,000,000 to Make-a-Wish Foundation and I'm fortunate to count him as a friend. I spent a weekend with him and his wife not long ago and am sharing their story with you with their permission.
My purpose in sharing this is not to influence anyone on their decision regarding the vaccines, but rather to present the facts of Bill's experience because it does cast doubt on what many of us believe about antibody protection, post Covid. Up until 6 weeks ago, you wouldn't find a healthier 56 year old than Bill Phillips. He and his wife elected not to get vaccines and he came down with Covid back in the winter with no issues to speak of. He, like many of us, believed he was healthy enough to weather this virus and his first Covid experience just solidified this opinion. After coming down with Covid (round 1) he assumed he was even more protected from future trouble.
On a personal note, before sharing Maria's post with you, I will confess to thinking I'm also healthy enough to not need a vaccine. I've never been sick, in excellent health, etc. However, I did get the vaccine because I'm in contact with my aging parents almost everyday and they urged me to get it for their own peace of mind. Having said that, I will tell you that I'm now thankful I've been vaccinated based in large part to the experience that I share below from Maria:
"Today, Bill has come a long way from this photo. It has been 42 days in the ICU and he is just beginning to stand, with assistance. Not able to walk yet, but I know we will get there. He's lost 50 lbs of muscle and has lost most of the coordination we all take for granted. If Covid can knock Bill down like this, after he already had the virus and thought he had enough antibodies, with all his strength, no health issues, tons of energy and will-to-live... it can knock down any one of us.
In a previous post I told you about the man next door to Bill's room, the one that came to the ICU from the Covid floor because he had to be intubated after his oxygen levels kept declining. Today, I walked in to the ICU to see his family standing outside the room, everyone was crying and they were each taking turns talking to a speaker that was in the room saying their last words to him. No one was allowed to go in to hold his hand or give him one final hug. Our ICU room neighbor was sadly taken off life support today. He had a massive stroke from the blood clots that often happen with Covid and he was left brain dead. God bless the man in room 230, may he Rest In Peace.
Please get vaccinated. Do it to improve your odds. Nothing is 100% and we all know that. Do it so that your wife, kids, parents, family and friends don't have to suffer this way. You might not understand until it's too late so I am just begging you to be proactive. Ivermec... is not going to save you when you're in the hospital on a ventilator and fighting for your life. Random people on Facebook have messaged me saying that ventilators are the wrong treatment, and ventilators = death... well, actually having the opportunity to be put on a ventilator SAVED BILL'S LIFE!!!!
There are medical professionals dedicating their life to this science and the audacity of random people who barely graduated high school to think they know more from watching a few YouTube videos... the arrogance is shocking and dangerous. Bill had full blown Covid pneumonia (which isn't like typical pneumonia) and we didn't even know it his oxygen saturation was in the 50's when he got to the ER. He walked in like nothing when he should have been unconscious. He was minutes away from death and that's the scariest part, we almost didn't know until it was too late.
God made sure that Bill got to the hospital in time, HE had all the right people in place to save Bill's life. One of the top Covid experts in the country was randomly doing rounds in our little Lakewood ICU the day Bill was admitted. That was God. No one can tell me otherwise.
Our prayers are being heard and I know that we are extremely blessed to be on the road to recovery. The journey will be very long, and I am so grateful. God's got this!
