I guess if anyone gets sick with a cold we have to just shut down America now.

Makes sense.

Outbreak....I mean Outback others are proceeding as planned

Rumor is bunch of counselors got it ,including my sons cabin, and the numbers went from 10 to 40 but that is second hand

Two kids have symptoms from his cabin but easily could be heat exhaustion as well

I understand shutting it down and we will have him tested in morning for family reasons

I cant believe they cancelled camp just because COVID was sweeping though the adults that worked there. Why are they hiring ******* that get sick in the first place. Even with cases we all know kids are immune to it, so they shoulda just sent the adults home and given the kids conch shell and let them figure it out.

Yes they will recover but seems like a bad idea to just let it ride the rest of the week and then send a ton of kids home to their families with Covid exposure. Or to have all the staff get sick so the next two weeks of camp have to be cancelled for other campers because there is no staff. They aren't in an easy spot. I also worked there for 3 summers in college and I expect they have a lot of things in place with the staff to try to limit their Covid exposure.

As a parent, I think I'd want to know if the staff were vaccinated or had already had the stuff. Children with sniffles

A church in town sent 60 kids to camp mid July. 15 came back positive.

Buckle your belts for a rough school year any way you slice it.

I'm at Woods in Tyler right now.

Some friends were at Bluffs 3 weeks ago and started feeling sick on Friday and had to leave. Got back home and father and son had a positive test. Dad is an incredibly healthy cross fitter and it kicked his butt for a few weeks.

I think Bluffs had to shut down for a few weeks after that.

Woods has remained untouched amazingly just like last summer.

Agree. Going to be a tough year.

I just hope we continue to see that deaths from Delta Variant remain low and common sense prevails.

At some point we will have to accept COVID is here and people will get sick but like the cold and flu before...you dont shut down...you stay home when sick and come back when better. This year probably wont be that year unfortunately but we need to understand this and get to that point soon....

Curious if all 15 had symptoms or if they just tested to see if they had it. Why test even if have symptoms unless you need to know to ensure proper medical treatment at a hospital...

Going to depend on where you live as much as anything I would ager. My kids' school stayed open and in person all year. No virtual or hybrid learning. Sick and exposed kids quarantined but outside of that it ran pretty normally. I really doubt it's going to regress from last year to this year for my kids at least.

Good to hear.

I hope and think that will be how we operate....however....i have no doubt liberals / "hyper COVID" people will make massive pushes to add masks or shut down classes / schools if there is even a hint of a spike...

My daughter was in the middle of it. Picked her up last night when they shut down. First reaction was "meh". I'm starting get where Pine Cove was coming from as it's appearing a majority of the affected bunks all passed it to each other. Like not a handful but maybe 50% or more.

The sheer logistics of isolating dozens of campers while they could get them out of there had to suck. Sounds like they finally said screw it, y'all all go home.

How did they even discover this? Are they testing all the kids and staff daily? Did a bunch of kids get sick?
AginKaty04

Yes, kids were sick, symptomatic, whatever you call it these days.

Daughters best friend tested positive today, sore throat, mild stuff. She slept on the bunk above my daughter for 3 nights. Daughter has a sore throat starting this morning.

She said 3 of the 8 girls in the cabin next to them got sick and left a day or two ago. Counselors were being swapped out mid week as well. Per the girls.

We were at the Bluffs last week. It never shut down, but was very short staffed. We had two families (out of 32) get it and one more after getting home. The staff was like 10/60.

As much as I hope you're right, I wouldn't bank on it. No kids were getting sick last year. We're dealing with an entirely different animal this time around.

Your assertion is that no kids caught this and presented symptoms previously? I think that's a bit of revisionist history. My oldest kid's class was down to 5 kids at one point because the rest were in quarantine. I'm not worried about my kids' school changing.
wcb

Fair enough. I got weekly emails from the school letting me know someone was positive and there was no reason for us to quarantine. But in my part of the world I didn't hear about mass positives among students. One school had to close down because of the number of teachers positive, but that was as close as it got.

We vaccinated the at-risk folks so the thing had to mutate to survive. It's no surprise that this time around kids are much more susceptible. Thus my predictions that we'll see much bigger impacts on education this fall.

Ok good to hear. I heard "another camp" shut down and assumed it was Bluffs after we knew people that had to leave. I'm assuming these are the Columbus camps?

Outbreak where my kid was in COLUMBUS

Bluffs is family camp in TYLER but not the kids camp it is separate one

My kid has cough and sore throat as of late last night and this afternoon otherwise fine

Out kid was there and when camp was over she was pretty sick and lethargic - bad cough - said several in her cabin also did. She had already had Covid once but when we got her home we had her tested. Negative. Pediatrician said there was a lot of RSV/croup type stuff going around - not Covid. Wonder on this recent outbreak how much was a combo of the two.
