Where and what are you buying for a supplement?

CVS 50mg Zinc - I'm taking half of one to make it last and I also take a multi-vitamin.

I went to five places before I found some at CVS. 50mg is 455% daily value per the label.

Dunno if y'all have run into this, but after taking this for two days, both my wife and I had upset stomachs and diarrhea. Kinda similar to if you ever just kept drinking Emergen-C to boost your immune system. If your body has too much of something...it's going to get rid of it, vitamins included.

I started researching online and the highest daily dose recommended by a doctor was 40mg. As the previous poster mentioned, even 40mg is about 400% of your daily need. If y'all are going to proceed I'd recommend at least halving the pills or taking them once every few days. Also, the multivitamin may already have your daily needed dose so no need for an additional zinc supplement on its own.

I bought 25 mg on Amazon.

The first day I was bloated terribly and had stomach issues (but not uncommon for me - I don't do well with meds/vitamins usually). The past 2-3 days have been better. Take with food.

I'm taking 2 Zicam fast melt tablets a day (about 22 mg of zinc). No stomach issues at that dose.

Yeah my stomach feels queasy afterwards - didn't know zinc might have been the culprit. I am going to start reducing my intake. My multi-vitamin already has 40% DV.

Are doctors recommending this or something?

I found 30mg tablets at my local sprouts started taking them couple of days ago with nothing negative to report. Im already taking 11mg with my daily multivitamin. So I'm getting about the daily recommended max (40mg)

Im feeling fine so I might take a pause until/if I start getting a fever

There are two forms of supplemental zinc available: zinc mono-L-methionine and zinc mono-D-methionine. Only the "L" form is readily absorbed and used by the body. The human body is not able to use the "D" form.

Other minerals can interfere with zinc absorption, so many multivitamins aren't all that effective at delivering it effectively.

Bodybuilders have known about zinc deficiency and benefits for years (which have been studied extensively). A simple ZMA supplement (utilizing the correct "L" form) is sufficient.

Take it on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before bed for optimal absorption and because it might make you sleepy if you are deficient.

Dr Rev is not recommending Zinc as a blanket - only as a supplement if you don't eat a balanced diet. Taking extra will cause the stomach issues.

Meant to ask this on another supplement thread, but are you guys taking zinc, etc because of your work, grocery store, etc? I mean, I know a guy that does this and hasn't left the house in 7 days. Not sure why the need for him. Like wiping your house with Clorox every day, if nobody is coming in.

This is correct. If you eat a balanced diet it is very debatable if you need any extra Zinc. Any Zinc supplement should be fine. The main thing is to not be deficient in Zinc. Increasing Zinc even 10 fold barely should any effectiveness in slowly viral replication. However, adding a zinc ionophore shows significant effect with as little as 5mg of Zinc.

Taking excessive Zinc can cause stomach issues. Taking a multi-vitamin with zinc is likely sufficient!

I've taken 30mg zinc for years for my skin, am hoping it helps a bit with immunity but not counting on it. But I don't have any issues with it either.

2x enough. You also eat food, don't you? Oysters are the best, but red meat too.

If your feet stink, take zinc.

That's what I figured. Plenty of red meat, etc. Figured it would be crazy to add more zinc on top of that.

Dr:
How much (mg/day) of
1) Zinc supplement (10-20)? I take a multivitamin with 15mg in it.
2) Zinc Ionophore (mg/day)?
3) Best Zinc Ionophore (tablet or Food)?

Thanks

Looks like my daily multi (GNC Men's Ripped vita-pack) has 300mg Vitamin C (333%) and 25mg Zinc (227%), and I'm sure I get more from diet. I'm drinking green and black tea here and there during all this.. but what are the other supplements Dr. Coats has mentioned a few times on his blogs and where do you get them?

(Unfortunately, I am really bad at the main subject of Dr. Coats' most recent update - SLEEP. I function daily on an average of less than 6 hours of sleep/night.)
