Why in the world does a Governor think he has any say into medicines allowed or not allowed. I hope all the doctors there completely ignore that and do what they feel is best for their patients.

Well I really want that to come back and bite him in the ass if it's proven to be effective. Some people are so dumb.

The article is pretty scant...Perhaps he has spoken to doctors who know something we don't know...or perhaps this is a cheap political defiance of Trump...

He has no legal authority.

Not only does the federal right to try act allow doctors to prescribe medication for off label uses, but a federal court ruled in another case that a governor does not have the legal authority to ban any drug that is legally approved in this country.

I want to see the actual order.

Not a defense of it or argument it's legal. But the actual press release is strange.

It says the order prohibits prescribing and dispensing of the drug (not administration of it), but at the same time limits the length of a prescription of the drug and says there is a need to protect the drug for use by those who need it.

If it turns out that it works then the doctors would probably want to prescribe it before the patient needs to be admitted if it would prevent those cases from getting worse.

Again, I'm not defending the Nevada Board of Pharmacy on legal or other grounds, I just thought the press release was oddly written.

It seems like it's partly driven by a supply-based fear and desire to make sure it's available with severe cases that are presumably inpatient.

This is absurd! Preventing doctors from doing anything and everything they can to attempt to save a life is crazy! Hundreds of thosands of drugs are used off label every single day. Many drugs we use everyday do not have FDA approval for the things we use them for.

More than likely most people in this board have taken drugs off label. If I'm doing if Covid-19 the doctor damn well better yet everything he can off label to try to save me just like I would my patients. Once again someone putting politics and his hatred for Trump above what's best for the people of his state. I wouldn't want to live in Nevada right now! And my identity have a house in Lake Tahoe. Luckily they are at thier house in Texas right now. But I don't think I want them going back to Nevada till this thing is under some control since they obviously can't be treated in that state.

The reference to the couple dying is irrelevant! No doctor told them to do that! It is not the same thing. Taking medications without a doctor's supervison is extremely dangerous and should not be done.

If someone takes rat poison because it is the same thing as the prescription warfin which we use for a-fib and blood clots does that mean we stop using warfin. Absolutely not! That is why you go to and pay to see the doctor for our knowledge and expertise. You can't read something in the internet and think you are expert!

As for the more testing statement! Yes it needs more testing which is currently underway in many places. However, people are dying now in many places and they don't have the time to wait. If something looks promising than you take a chance rather then let them die waiting on a study to finish.

In 20 years of medicine, we have seen this type of thing over and over. Almost all the time, the study just proves what we already believed. Sometimes some side effects show up to to be careful of, but more than not the doctors already knew what the results end up proving!

Because we are using it off label we see the people get better and we don't need a study to prove what we already know. The study is just acamdeic at that point and something to defend you in court in case if litigation.

Sorry to ramble on but as a doctor this really bothers me. What is he going to say to the families of the deceased if more studies show it had benifits?

No one is saying it is the end all cure but it and anti flu drug used in China are the two best things we have seen so far.
