All my wife's family live out there and I know it's still shutoff (we tried to get out there this evening to inspect and we turned back by Sheriffs) however, I didn't see any threads so decided to start incase anybody else were looking for updates.

Sheriff told us that there was a part of the levee that had already breached and flooding was being reported. Don't know where, but Sheriff we're making rounds to tell people to get out. Ecuador they are unsure how the levees will react at crest.

I doubt that the levee has been breached anywhere in Greatwood at this time. The river is still lower than the level last year when it did not go over the top. Technically, a breach is failure of a section of the levee, and could lead to a catastrophic failure of more of the structure as water flows through the breach and weakens it further. Over-topping is simply water flowing over the levee, and could eventually lead to a failure (breach). Given the current river levels, no water should be going over the top. On my street in Highland Park, neighbors still there state the water is receding and no homes in the immediate area have water in them. My brother's home in Wood Creek is also out of the water and watching his online security video ,it looks like water on his street is slowly receding. All of the current flooding is due to the rain, coupled with the inability to open the floodgates. Drainage of the neighborhood is currently relying solely on the multiple pumps inside the levee. I have been told that the Knoll and the Glen have very little water in them. Hope that helps

Thanks Gizzard! I took what he told us with a grain of salt because I know they want to keep people from heading back into their homes just yet until we're through the Brazos cresting. Didn't do much to relieve the stress of my in-laws but that update will help them.

I have a coworker that lives there. He said the water levels in the neighborhood are receding but he thinks the neighborhood is still inaccessible at this point. He doesn't know anybody that's tried getting in or out though.

There was/is a small area were some water cam over levee at woodhaven 2. The president of levee said they are aware of it, and it was right by the pumping station, so it was not adding to street pooling because it is just being pumped back out. This was yesterday afternoon.

Another resident saw a small atea of erosion on levee by pool 2, and levee peeps are aware and are monitoring. The said they are going sandbag it with 100 bags to reinforce it, and are asking for volunteers.

Water is receding throughout, not there are some high water areas such as wood dale and winding brook (1-1.5 feet), and a 4-5" near the Arbor.

I have been checking every river gauge reading at the Richmond gauge. I calculated It has been rising at a constant rate .07 feet per hour (which is at a much lower rate than was expected). However, overnight it increased to .08 feet per hour. The last reading increased at .13 feet in the last hour.

Great news. Crest level projection lowered again from 57.5 to 56!

At 11pm last night, the judge that ordered the evac answered a question of when is it safe to go back. He said when streets clear up, and level after crest gets to 56

My BIL is on the way back down to try and get into his house at Greatwood. I will post up with info, if he was able to get in. The route he chose from Austin seems to be clear all the way to the entrance to Greatwood, since he will be coming up 59 from the South at that point.

Should be fine taking that route. 99 in new territory is shut down, so he avoids that problem

Re: that area of erosion on the water side face of levee, they have sandbags at the ready, but sent a pic to levee engineers to see what they should do or if anything else will help.

All enterences are open. Knoll and crossing are still mandatory evac because they have lower levee and they are expecting some flooding in parts of those. Entrances might change in future if river causes any flooding of course

Here is what levee president said one hour ago re: the erosion thing ago...

All, this area was identified yesterday late afternoon. Because it wasnt an immediate emergency we knew it could be addressed this morning. I commented on this on another thread yesterday. Something to be aware of and monitor but NOT panic about.

Angler, what subdivision is he in? I can pass anything specific I hear on his section. At this point now (might change in future leading up to crest thurs midnight), all roads in GW are passible. Highest is maybe a foot or so.

And for the record, I am not there. We bugged out to Calvert, but I am pooling info from multiple sources.

Levee doing well. They are in comm with corp of engineers, and they have them sandbagging now. All pumps are operational as of 30 min ago. That slouching is not uncommon and happens periodically, and sandbagging is what they have done in the past.

They are expecting 56, and they have 5 feet of freeboard above that.

Correction.
Do the bucees/cvs enterence or the main. One by the river turnaround is a bit dicey.

I let him know, thanks. He is circumnavigating the 59 closure North of El Campo by routing through Bay City. Looks like flooding on 59.

That is not a levee overtopping, but water coming out of one of the bayous into a street. I live on the other side of that bayou and it never came out of the banks on our side. None of the levees have come close to overtopping, as the level is still below last April's record which also did not overtop.
