I have a 3 year old boy who loves everything baseball. I took him to watch little league games in Houston @ Baseball USA off of the Beltway this last weekend and now he wants to play. This really has blown me away at how much interest he has at such a young age. Problem is I cannot find a lot of information for T-ball in the Round Rock Pflugerville area. I have been told they can start at 4 years old, but most information I am seeing is 5 and 6 year old. Anybody have sources of information on this? Anybody have kids that want to play this young? General thoughts about kids playing t-ball this young?

Can he hit, I think Childress may have some openings next year.

Try Town and Country Optomist Club or Sam Bass. My son played in the Town and Country League (fields are located off Parmer and Amberglen close to 620). Sam Bass fields are located off of 79 East of I-35.

What is his attention span?

He might have the skills to play but if his focus isn't good, you might be better off just waiting until he is older. You can continue to hone his skills by practicing and playing with him.

Thanks for the information and reply.

Yes, the attention span could be a problem, it varies depending on what's going on around him. I could see were this could be a problem.

He can throw a baseball very well, he can hit off the tee pretty well, but does struggle catching the ball. We are working on that.

Based on information I am finding, he will have to wait till next year anyway. Just glad to see he has such a strong interest in the game.

DO they play Little League, Pony or something else. Pony League mandate for t-ball is 5-6 yrs old, but many associations give waiver to 4yr olds and some even to 3 yr olds. Obviously the 3 and 4 yr olds are only eligible for league play within that city and aren't eligible for any tournament play. Attention span is probably the biggest issue. Don't worry about catching, you'll notice the majority of 4 yr olds aren't catching either. The games will be as fun as the kid makes them, if he/she is ready to leave 10 minutes after the game stars, it won't be any fun

My 4 yr old played this year and thrived...but he has been watching his older brother play since he was born and has been dying to play since he was old enough to walk and talk.

if all else fails, check your local YMCA. They might have a T-ball league for the younger guys. If not, continue to take him to games in your area and work with him on the side.

Catching is the most importanat skill to learn at that age. Most of the kids can hit off the tee and quite a few can throw. Catching sets them apart from the crowd.

The YMCA lets kids start younger. Don't know if you have one of those leagues. Also, chuck how the little league systems figure the age bracket. Think it is the age as of May 31st.

85 AustinAg, I had to laugh out loud when you asked about attention span. I think you should ask the parents about their attention span-good grief if it is anything like my grandson's t-ball team of 20+ players, completely covering the entire diamond and outfield, you need to have a very long long long attention span. It is good for learning some team work, I guess. Anyway, thanks for the chuckle. Oh, by the way my grandson's coach played for OU and was drafted fourth round by the Reds. Now he is coaching t-ball, but he is a great "sport" and a great example for the boys.

I sent you a private message regarding several leagues in the north Austin area. You will find that most leagues have a competitive and non competitive league. Some start at the 4U level which is not competitive and just an intro to baseball. That would be for a 4 year old. I've found that some 4's, especially one's with older brothers that are in baseball do well at that age. Some 4's can't pay attention for more than 2 min. It really depends on your child. Watch out though because the 5&6 year old t-ball can get really competitive.
