Whenever "Field of Dreams" came out, he was on a promotional tour with the author of the book. They did a deal where they had a "reading" at Rudder and a book-signing at Olsen.

A few years later when Coster was filming that movie where he's a washed up Detroit Tigers pitcher (can't remember the name), he did some promotional stuff in both Austin and College Station the weekend of the A&M/UT series.

I'm guessing this all took place in the late '80s and early '90s.

Rick Trevino sang the national anthem at Olsen back in the mid 90's

I dont remember the Kevin Costner thing really..I though about it for awhile and I do remember somebody big being at an A&M game in the early 90's but dont recall who it was..maybe it was Costner

I know A&M tried to get Garth Brooks to sing the national anthem prior to a game..he was giving a concert at G Rollie that night..but it didnt happen

Tommy Lasorda was at a game a few years ago

senator Phil Gramm used to make a few games

Mr. Olsen used to sit at the table nearest the entrance to where you got your food at Cain, hat his Louiville Slugger cane leaning against the wall and he would always ask us how classes were going and the like...one of his favorites was "Any luck with the ladies this weekend?" with a look like maybe, just maybe if we asked him along he'd come...

Did George Strait come to some Aggie sporting events when "Bubba" was at A&M? I never saw him at anything but a rodeo or roping, but evidently someone else has.

Costner was at the 1993 Texas game in Austin and threw out the first pitch. He gave the team the thumbs up, was it for gig'em or just a normal thumbs up, who knows. They had just finished filming Perfect World in the Hill country and Costner has always been a big College Baseball Fan (Cal St. Fullerton Alum) and often goes to the College World Series.

In Omaha is where Costner promoted For the Love of THe Game in 1999. And the team went to the sneak preview in Omaha.

Rocks -

Seems like I remember what you're saying, but I do distinctly remember shaking Costner's hand on the concourse at Olsen Field. Maybe it wasn't when he was promoting one of those movies, but he has definitely been to Olsen.

Remember...I'm old. General details are crystal clear...specifics get a little fuzzy.
