I don't follow the recruiting of Aggie Baseball as much as some of you gurus, so what is up ?

We go to Gainesville, Florida and take the series with 2 shutouts from the # 5 Team in the country.

Yet, Mizzou and OSU have more talent ?

Not trolling, just wondering what's up ...

You put way too much value into the early polls

I'm just having a hard time believing that the cupboard at TEXAS A&M is bare. I also don't know anything about the coaching.

My point is this : What if we ( Aggies ) get HOT and make a big time run to the CWS and even win it ?

Moral of the Story : It's early in the race and Texas A&M will finish strong. Hide and watch ...

We always seem to have talented pitching and this team certainly has that.

Offensively, yes. Last season we had one of the worst offensive seasons any of us can remember and we lost our top two hitters from that team (Pennington & Baldwin who were head-and-shoulders above the rest of the squad).

2005 Stats:
http://www.aggieathletics.com/sports/games/boxscores/2005/MBA/teamcume.htm

On top of that Infante and Spencer Jackson are injured.

We have to recruit high school kids better. I posted it on another thread. Since 2000 we have had only 5 different position players named to 1st or 2nd team All-Big 12. Only 3 of them were signed out of high school (Pennington, Schindewolf, & CStinson).

It's no longer early in the conference season. After tomorrow we'll be 1/3 of the way through the conference schedule and right now we're 2-6 (and we have the 3 top schools still left to play.

It's certainly possible for us to get hot and make a regional that would be surprising at this juncture in the season.

I would say the cupboard is in dire need of a food drive. I don't know how this team is going to miraculously reinvent itself, it has too many holes.

Our pitching is fine and recruiting there is fine. However, look at the class coming in. Everyone seems to be a pitcher. I think we need more position players and let them fight for the jobs. The last staff really whiffed on the top hitters.

A mouse would starve if he had to live out of this cupboard.

Plenty of pitching on this staff? Not sure that I agree with that. Creps was the third best pitcher on his high school team, but may be the best pitcher on our staff. We may not have been the only school to offer Nicholson a scholarship, but the top schools in the Big 12 didn't. Chambless-Looks like he may still not be 100 percent from his knee injury. Corgan was a nice sign out of Forney. Thebeau another nice sign, but is just a freshman. Creps, Nicholson and Chambless could move on after this season. Not sure I am ready to criticize the coaching staff for their first recruiting class just yet.

Although I hope that I am wrong, it looks to me like this rebuilding job may take a couple of years.

From an outsider's perspective, it appears to me our ties with high school and select programs in the state are not what they should be..

When was the last class of solid position players from hs that we brought in?

It's been painfully obvious in recent years that recruiting has been lacking.
Way too much competition in this region to let that happen on a regular basis and hope to compete.

I don't even recognize over half those guys. No wonder we have been so bad.

NCAA Regionals in 2003 & Super Regional in 2004 is "so bad"???

Shesh...

Some people need to get in touch with reality.

And since 11 of 16 RC signees are pitchers, don't look for a whole lot to change on the position players or bats.

In addition, the main point of this thread ended up being our inability to recruit position players from the hs ranks. What does our success with juco position players have to do with that?

Absolutely scary thought. I hope he finds some good sticks before the Spring signing period is over.

A regional looks to be out of the question this year. That makes 2 post season appearances in the last 7 years which frankly is not surprising after looking at that list of signees since 1999.

The 2003 and 2004 post season appearances are directly related to the signing of Beerer, Patton and Ruggiano prior to the '03 season. Talk about catching lightning in a bottle. Sure would have been nice to see what that 2003 team could have done with a super regional at Olsen.

We have at least had one good team and one pretty decent team this century. That list of signees pretty much explains why the rest of our teams this century have been real stinkers.

not to be nitpicky but the 2003 Super Regional would have been at Rice had we advanced that far

"I'm just having a hard time believing that the cupboard at TEXAS A&M is bare."

You haven't noticed the names of tu, Baylor and Rice in the CWS or in the Super Regionals consistently over the last 5 years? And the name of A&M once? I guess if you haven't then it might be hard to believe, but believe it.

And TXOLDAG, support MJ all you want, but do you have to consistently run down every move Childress makes in games that happen to end with a loss? In 3 years if we're seeing losses of this kind, fire away, but for now, give the program a small break, please.
