I am amazed that he is going to do this in honor of his mother. Even if he is a teasip, he is a hell of a player and I respect him for his decision.

She'd been sick for a while. He always said that he wanted her to be at his Hall of Fame induction ceremony, which is why he hesitated to play this season and last season...he wasn't sure she'd be able to make it five more years. Sad day for his family.

Roger pitching a good game. Emotional night, and hes handling himself very well.

We have had our chances at getting the knockout punch tonight, but as usual we cant get a clutch hit to save our life. Bases loaded 1 out...palmerio and lamb with 2 weak pop flys. 1st and 2nd and 1 out....lane looks like his usual self at the plate and pops out to the first baseman. Bases loaded....everett flys out. Our situational hitting is pitful and we are going to need it to pick up if we are going to win this thing.

Umm he just pulled clemens in the 7th after 2 seeing eyed singles? He does realize that qualls gave up a 2 run jack to la duca last night doesnt he? He may get out of this jam, but that is a bad move in my book. Unless roger is hurt of course.

PS but what the hell do i know?

Magical game indeed...

Just heard Roger on the post game interviews. So touching. He said when his mother was dying she was still thinking baseball. Came to one time and asked about Andy' elbow. Another time asked if they were in the playoffs yet. And later out of the blue said something about Shoeless Joe Jackson. Roger said he didn't know if she was seeing her brothers and sisters and talking about Jackson or was maybe "in those fields". Really a baseball Mom (and Dad, apparently).

Rest in peace, Mom.

Great job by Roger tonight. 6 1/3 innings and 1 earned run. Picked up win #12. Lowered ERA to 1.77.

I don't think tsip when I read about or watch Clemens. He's just a baller.

here's a question somebody needs to ask, since we've been talking about it for 3 months:

will Roger's effort last night under difficult circumstances send a few more Cy Young votes his way?

I was thinking the same thing W, but I still think the race is now primarily between Dontrelle and Carp. If Clemens had done something really special, as was suggested he might on another thread, then maybe that would have catipulted him into the lead. As is though, I don't think it's enough unless Dontrelle and Carp both fold down the stretch.

I don't think that is a fair question at all. One night's performance does not a season make, and we let Roger down all year with pi$$poor run support. It's a close call, but I think Carpenter has it.

Daily Quickie thinks last night wrapped up the CY for Roger.

Last night would have helped more if his ERA didn't go up .20 in his last two starts.

Also, Dontrelle is getting a TON of run right now with the media....that's one more person to split votes with
