Does anyone know what kind of money A, AA, & AAA ballplayers make? If it's not much, why do kids leave college early for single A ball?

They get a big signing bonus. They wouldn't do it for the minor league salary, although I think AAA players make something resembling a real salary.

approximate #'s for Expos between 1998-2002

Rookie League or first year- $875/month
Short Season A- $950/month
Low A- $1000
High A- $1050
Double A- $1500
Triple A- $2000

It also depends how many years you have spent at one level which usually increases your salary by $100 per month per year at that level. After your minor league free agent year the salary is higher because of negotiations, but you aren't a free agent until you are released or spent 5-6 years under the original contract. There are a few exceptions, but these were standard rates. You only get paid during the season, so for most guys it is April through the first few days of September. Pay during Spring Training is even worse.
